Forgot to snap a pic before I temporarily did a quick fix, but this waterheater exhaust vent was broken at a connection and dumping all the exhaust into the basement Nevermind that this is a sidewall vent and not a direct vent waterheater, and nevermind the acordian style dryer duct, and nevermind the 15’ horizontal distance and nevermind…well, you get the picture.
Owner was a 90 year old lady that said...I don't know, that's how the plumber did it last year. I let her know about all the inherent dangers involved...The buyer, the buyers two buddies and myself all walked out of the basement with headaches. She's lucky that the basement stairs open into the porch and not her home or it's doubtful we'd have ever gotten the chance to talk to her.
Her response..." The home is being sold AS IS". I said..."you're welcome".

Sidenote: originally they had the waterheater exhausting out the chimney, but they wanted to heat an upstairs room, so they stuck flexible duct up the chimney (see pic on left with the insulation wrap) and capped off the chimney. Since there was no more room in the chimney flue, they exhausted the waterheater out the side. Infinite wisdom.
