Each segment of decking must bear on a minimum of 3 joists, or 3 supports if my memory serves me well.

That’s NOT what the graphic you posted shows!

Rim joists are not deck joists.

it doesn’t have to be supported on a joist.

As JJ said, your graphic does not match the text.

What’s your point? Your comment doesn’t match the graphic!!

Sure they are. They serve the same purpose. There’s nothing special about a rim joist other than their location.

The building code specifies that each decking board must bear on at least 3 supports (or joists).
However, in the InterNACHI exam, the correct answer is stated as 4 supports.

The exact reason should be clarified or corrected by InterNACHI.

You will learn how to read one day Jeff. Don’t be hard on yourself until then.

LOL. I was just kidding, Jeffrey. You made a good point about the rim joist.

Lol. Still the same. At a loss for words so you depict images. Lol

Ah, ok, so if that image is ok, this is how you fix that giant gap between the full length board and that one board bearing on 6 and to cover that space where only two joists would hold it.

I got it, Mark.

Jeffrey, I apologise. You were right. The image does not depict what I was saying.
Pardon me.This goes to the members as well.
