Did they make 1/8" glass panels this large?

I inspected a 1956 SFR and inspected these two window panels. They were single-pane, no markings, and appeared to be around 1/8" thick. The tap test, scratch test, and flex test (no lick test) made me feel that these were glass and not an acrylic like the panels in the adjacent sunroom. But, I found some information that these would be too large to be 1/8" glass.

I don’t want to call them out as dangerous if they’re not glass but they sure did act like glass in every way. Can anyone definitively clarify one way or another, ie. there’s no way these are glass due to their size and thickness?

Anything is possible if you have the $$$$$$ !!

If there are no markings, write it up for a Glass Manufacturer Rep or other glass professional to inspect and advise! IMO, it is likely a custom piece.

Yes, just got a history lesson today in the making of glass for windows and doors at the PGT factory in Venice. Like JJ said if you got enough money… that size would be possible.

Older glass is particularly more dangerous (think of the scene form Ghost) it breaks in large heavy pieces.

Not sure about the thickness for that size window, but if it wasn’t tempered glass I would be writing it up as a potential safety hazard.
