The protocal is most likely very similar to what NACHI members are already observing; detail flashing,missing shingles, nail pops all from a ladder. We do not require anyone to climb the roof. The program does train on the fundamentals of the proper installation technigues so inspectors understand why they are important. Only a ladder and digital camera is required unlike our stucco inspector requirements. The digital pictures are to be kept by the inspector for future reference only. We do not require them to be sent to us unless requested.You have not heard of this because we are wanted to be near completion (Jan 19th) before we announced this new program. This is a national product similar model to our Stucco Warranty business but far less complicated.
This is not a competing product nor is the MoistureFree Certified Roof Inspector training affiliated with ASHI. We’ve had positive responses from NACH members and are interested in opening the dialog with the board and it’s members. We’ve not even spoken to ASHI about the program in detail just signed up for the conference.This is a program to benefit NACHI members as well. So I encourage any interested members to evaluate this program before making any assumptions.
When I help film the training video for this program I was able to meet the president of the company and had a nice talk with Chris and with Bill, and I believe this could have some potential to earn a few extra bucks.
Remember, like the Brinks program, any ‘commissions’ must be disclosed to the inspector’s client prior to performing the inspection. In other words, if Moisture Free signs up a homeowner for the warranty and you accept money from Moisture Free ($35, $50, $75) you must tell the client that. Reference COE 1.6. and possibly your state COE if in a licensed state.

With respect to my question #5 have you spoken to the Texas Real Estate Commission to verify that they will not classify this as a “Residential Service Company” warranty? This is the type of warranty that a seller would benefit from and could possibly attempt to use as a marketing point for selling their home. We have had other offers that have been presented to us (from other vendors) who have not fully researched their requirements. That is one reason I ask.
Isn’t that a vendor offering ASHI members a discount? I’m pretty sure many vendors offer ASHI, CREIA and NAHI members service and product discounts as well.
Both are garbage programs, “Certi-Roof” has been here and gone. As inspectors, we get paid to inspect. Here in California it may very well be in direct violation of the California Professions and Ethics Codes which specifically prohibit an inspector from performing any work and or services to a property they’ve inspected. Leave the roof repair and certification issues to the licensed roofing contractors, you’ll sleep better at night.

You certainly have great credentials and enourmous amount of hands on experiance. Our training program is designed to ensure to us that inspectors which we certifiy truly understand the installation fundementals and problematic areas. It’s obvious that you have the abiltiy but we must be certain to uor clients that this training was met. Only a MoistureFree Certified Roof Inspector can approve a roof for our 3rd party warranty products and it’s the only way we can be certain.
So to answer your question “how will your certfied program help me?” Technically maybe it has not advantage since you already are well armed but, when homeowners, builders, realtors want to obtain the MoistureFree Roof Performance Warranty they’ll seek the services of an inspector with these credentials.
As you mentioned others are here and gone but, this program is significantly different. The MositureFree program ensures that a home inspector who has studied the DVD training and passed the online exam understands the proper installation technigues and what to look for. Some builders are using these inspectors to validate that their subcontractors are using the correct methods to protect themselves and the future homeowners. Also, they can offer our warranty on new or existing homes. MoistureFree is paying the inspector for the services they performed as a QC for our Warranty and should not impact the Code of Ethics which we respect. We have independent MoistureFree Stucco Inspectors & contractors across the country. Our Warranties for Stucco have been approved and backed by an RRG. The roof warranty is following the same business model and in the approval process.
