Electrical Circuit Panel Board in Bedroom

I am doing an inspection on a home with an electrical panel installed in a bedroom. There is enough room around the panel, but there is exposed Romex wiring above the unit as it is not a flush mount in the wall. Does this Romex need to be covered?

If it is subject to physical damage, it needs to be protected, Rod.

And, welcome to our forum, Rod…Enjoy!

Type NM cable is allowed to be run on the surface. It would only need protection is judged to be subject to physical damage. That is entirely subjective. I would doubt that much damage is going to happen above the panel.

You’re probably right, Jim. But, since we don’t know how low the panel board is mounted, I just gave the requirement. Better safe than sorry, eh?
