Fire rated door???

The home I inspected yesterday had a non-fire rated door (wood) from the garage to the living space. However, on the garage side of the opening was a storm door (with glass - not screens). Would this pass as fire rated??

Only if the manufacturer of the storm door rated it and labeled it as such.

Bill:

If the wood door was at least 1 3/8 inch thick, solid core it would.

Hi to all,

Bill, I am not aware of any storm door that would meet fire regulations.

Thanks for the replies. The wood door was a French door (panes in the top panels only) and was 1 3/8" thick.

Hi Bill,

Doesn't sound from your description like a fire rated door. As someone said, I don't believe any storm doors are fire rated. Did you check for a label on the hinge side that should state the manuf. and it's rating?

If the wood door you refered to is the one that you are wondering if fire rated, if it has glass panes, it most likely is not. I've seen (in 2 different houses) the french type metal doors with the glass and mullions in the top half which are fire rated. They were brand new and so the homeowner had the specs. plus the metal tag on the door itself was attached.

No labels on the door (of course not – that would have made it easy!(’icon_lol.gif’)
