sorry, been lurking on wacky’s and Joes threads.
And so am I.
I have been part of FLHII from the begining donating my time any money because I was told “sit down and shut up”. Not looking to battle fellow inspectors just looking to build a professional industry. Along with sit down and shut up another problem I have is Richard’s thought process. Not very professional and as a business man I have trouble supporting his ways. Poor for business and poor for the industry. It is not a ladder and a flashlight working out of a town car industry. Im looking out for everyone, the inspector and the consumer.
It is easier for some of us to just to write a check.
LOL…the #1 problem with Home Inspection in Florida…Home Inspectors in Florida…
Me too, If i remember we were sitting next to each other at the first one. Unfortunately I couldn’t or won’t donate time because well let’s just say been there done that…I have no problem with money though as long as I know I am getting some value out of it.
Now back to your post…
No battle…but that’s the problem. Taking the industry beyond its intended means. A visual inspection into a holmes inspection. Meanwhile because of credentials, some touting greater skills are decimating the industry by calling it a flashlight and a town car profession.
which leads me to my fondness of FlNachi. Home Inspectors. No grand illusions. Providing a visual inspection so the client has the information they need in order to make a financial decision based on facts instead of emotions.
We need to be there when those in power attempt to change the industry.
Oh, now doubt some of us will be there when they try to change things. We will also be there when they further their power grab.
No grand illusions? really? They kept everyone’s money and refused to share information until we forced their hand by getting involved. Ask them when they ever held an election. Tell them to tell the truth and stop implying they do everything without the council. Ask them if they give an equal share to the lobbiest, ask them if they made a commitment and signed the contract with the council. Ask them if the council treats them differently because of it.
No grand illusions, that is all they know some just do not see it.
I guess we have different clientele. If you were hiring an inspector for your home what would you expect or want from them? No grand illusions just called customer service.
This debate is a curious one…anyway From what i gather flnachi hired zoe to provide proctored exams for Nachi members. Sorry, but at the time she was well qualified and should be nominated for member of the year status for the heroic way she has handled, not only making sure Florida InterNachi Members receive their licenses but also the shellacking she has taken for accepting payment or not sharing the wealth.
Could it have been handled differently…sure…lesson learned let’s move on.
As far as FlNachi is concerned, it is still a viable organization with some status with the great state of fl. There are some members taking an very active role in the future of FlNachi. The problem is it needs to be fed. Paying members. It already has been established that you need paying members. Nothing gets done for free.
Obviously opinions regarding flnachi differ or else they’d already be flush with money they so desperately need. This association stands out in stark contrast to what most Florida Home Inspectors really wanted.
Hopefully others will learn form the mistakes made… Here In Florida few are quick to forgive and no one forgets… Elections, (if only by feet) really do count, and this time your side lost.
Interesting, some offered to do it for free, I could also debate the well qualified part.
I sit here and shake my head, both chapters want (for the most part) the same thing, a better home inspection industry. I belong to both and have worked with both, happily. I can tell you although they don’t get along the leadership of both are good well meaning people. It’s a shame they can’t or won’t work together.
Larry, you are right it is a shame.
I would have to disagree that both want the same thing. I think Thomas stated a large difference.
I think the biggest debate came because each area could of had senior members proctor the exam and about $100,000 could have been in the kitty. But as with everything, self serving took priority and well some did not care for it and it put a huge distrust taste in our mouths.
The problem we curently face is welfare. Because that is how it is treated. Each inspector stands on the sidelines and wonders “What is in it for me”, without every attempting to help in any way. They sit idle with their hand out as if they were one of the those guys you see at the intersections with the “Will work for food”, signs
It is what it is and it will be what it will be. Nothing is going to change. What does it take really to become a “Home Inspector”. Few thousand dollars at most? Education is optional, they will learn as they go.
You say thanks to Zoe for the members getting their license. I say SHAME on Zoe for making it so easy to get a license. But I guess it depends on how you look at it. Some what easy, I want challenging.
Go and spend your thousands of dollars, it will amount to nothing. I was once wore Rose Colored glasses, and personally spent thousands on a guy, who alarms just enough to make you pay him out of fear, but never really accomplishes anything.
Want proof? Name the goal for this year from the council? I bet there are none and no course of action to achieve them. If there are goals, the only thing I hear is, “Give me money” . I NEED VALUE…I will give you MONEY, when you can produce an objective and plan to accomplish the objective.
The give me money because we need it is just plain stupid. We have been down that road and it amounts to the exact same thing…we need more money! More and more, but nothing gets done.
Good luck and once again, I will donate when you can produce a comprehensive set of goals that plan to accomplsih those goals. Sounds fair, right?
Hey Russ, I threw an email and a couple of PMs your way. Did you get them?
Russ,
I agree, too many are waiting for some one else to pay or do the work for them. What do you expect though from an “association” that gives every thing away for free? With the exception of a few they’re all spoiled!
Michelle,
I am an outsider but I was considering joining as an affiliate FLNACHI member because I thought you and John were in charge. It was during a conversation a couple of weeks ago with an inspector in Tampa who knows you and John personally, but is in the FL NACHI chapter, that I learned your chapter and FLNACHI are two separate chapters.
Since then, I have had conversations with several other inspectors who also had been unaware that your chapter is separate. It appears that there are inspectors who may be supporting FLNACHI because they think they are supporting a different chapter.
I’d like to see all the chapters do well but I thought it was worth mentioning that there is some confusion about who is who and what is what.
Hi George,
Yes I have heard that is true. I am not sure how to solve it tho? We have posted messages on the message board and sent out emails… but unless those emails are read or an inspector looks at the message board… they wouldn’t know. I am certainly open to suggestions.
Inspectors should just know… in the beginning there was only FLNachi. John and I asked Zoe to come to one of our meetings and talk about the coalition, FLNachi’s views, and how can we get involved and provide input. We were told… our input was not welcome and we didn’t need to worry about representation on the coalition…as it was already taken care of by Zoe’s husband. (That is where the sit down and shut up comes from… that you may hear people say)
So… out of our need/desire to have a say and input… our chapter was born. We listen to our members… provide information via the message board and chapter emails… and do not hide a single thing… WE EVEN… HAVE ELECTIONS for board members. FLNachi… doesn’t … they have no bylaws, they are not registered with Sunbiz…and I BET… they don’t have an EIN or Bank Account. (don’t know for sure.) I can tell you all the money for licensing collected went to a personal pocket… not a chapter account.
Our chapter is an official chartered chapter with InterNACHI. We have an EIN, our own Bank Account… and EVERY SINGLE CENT collected for legislative or Nachi Nickels goes to the chapter.
I am not sure how to tell people BUYER BEWARE. You know?
Our Chapter can be found HERE.
If an InterNACHI member wants to register… they just need to send me their ID# in an email…
I have a Florida Newsletter. We have approximately 300 subscribers but many don’t get on message boards. There is not a regular schedule for the newsletter. It is mainly used for announcements. Anytime you would like to use the newsletter to send something, let me know. You can use the newsletter any time you’d like to announce events or to promote your chapter. Free, of course.
