Found this unusual construction in the crawl space of a home today. The home was built with engineered floor joists (TJI) . A support column for the home (not supporting the main beam) has a number of 2X4s nailed together then attached to a section of TJI pieces nailed between two of the TJIs. I have never seen a structure like this before. Any idea why a builder would do this other than because the support column is built in the wrong place?
Any advice would be appreciated.
