Has anyone heard of anything that might be referred to as a “cushion” that is associated with a floor system ? Someone mentioned this was a problem with an inspection they had once and they want to make sure it is correct with their new house.

I think it must be the need for proper treated lumber shims or blocks between the piers and the beams/girders.

any other ideas?

Laminated floor system are installed with a foam underlayment. In basement installations the underlayment doubles as a moisture barrier.

I have also seen a sound control material used under concrete at the second floor.

There could be so many possibilities. I would suggest asking your client directly.

Good luck

Good advice. Your client has a concern. Find out exactly why it was a problem with his other inspection and what, in his mind, is needed for it to be correct. And go from there.
