The way it was explained to me is that you would need to partner with a licensed industrial hygienist and work under their license… Now, the lab may be the vehicle where all these strings come together, but at this point though, your guess is as good as mine.

When will we know if the Gov. signs it or not
Here is the latest info just received from a friend in Tallahassee.
Quote:
The latest scuttle butt I was able to get from Tallahassee today is that the mold assessment "tack-on" may cause the veto, but not sure.
Also the mold testers who are also home inspectors have until Jan, 2007 under the home inspector grandfathering time and the October, 2005 date only applies to mold testers that are not home inspectors.
Also the 4 year degree business, if put into law, will change before the 2007 time period.
Take the info for what it's worth.
It would seem like everything is up in the air and negotiable, the good news is that the Governor has yet to sign it.

To all of our members that reside in the state of Florida. We are aware of the new House Bill 315 that has passed in the House and has been moved on to be signed by Governor Jeb Bush. We are working very diligently on this Legislation. We are in contact with several people who are in the Senate and the House of Representatives. Another bill that is of interest is the S1830. We are also looking into this.

Gary,
They are about a week late and dollar or two too short. SB1830 is or WAS the Senate version of the Home Inspector bill that was tabled in favor of the House bill HB315. That train left the station long ago. Unless they are sleeping at the Governor’s mansion they are a little late on the uptake. Sorry.

Don’t think that Hooper and Co. are not lobbying just as hard. Just to give you an idea, he is closely monitoring this thread and copying parts of it to the IN message board.
Keep it up, Florida. You are getting closer and closer...

Yesterday I received a call from a Mortgage Broker who stated that the Lender required a mold test be done prior to closing. Now what are the people of Florida going to do when they buy a home? Spend over $3000.00 for an industrial hygienist? I think the PEOPLE of Florida need to know what is going on in the capital. Because also the Insurance companies are starting to require mold testing before they will insure a property.
Just my 2 cents.

When writing or calling the Governor, be sure to include that mold tests are not just performed during home inspections, but are also called for by insurance companies, doctors, lawyers, etc. Everyone has written at least once, right?

Got a call from Pro-Labs. They are working with a training facility to provide a 2 day class which will meet the state requirements. To do mold testing they say each inspector will need to take the class and carry E&O. No firm price but the E&O should run about $200 a month, per Pro-Lab.
So take additional training and carry E&O for approx $2,400 per year to do mold. OUCH. I presently do not get enough calls for Mold to cover the E&O. Not to mention training. This is over and above the training and equipment I've already invested in
So additional training for HI. $300,000 liability for HI. Training for Mold. E&O for Mold.
