FNG Here- I have a question on FL Pre-Licensing

Something has me scratching my head as a new person just starting to take the pre licensing coursework. Took my first exam and I immediately get a tickler that I need to enter my license number or Florida will not recognize my completion for this course.

I get it if this was for continuing ed on an existing license. But I’m taking pre licensing courses, which is required to get a license in Florida, and I don’t have a state license number yet?

So am I correct in assuming I cannot use these credits in my state toward the 120 hours required to sit for the state exam?

It’s a little confusing. Any input would be appreciated.

I’m older and can’t keep up with acronyms these days. What does “FNG” stand for?

Officially completed my 120 hours today, with the help of the Florida House of Horrors which definately sped up the process. Took (and passed) the final proctored Internachi exam at the end of the House of Horrors, I will say Juan and Genisis did a fantastic job on exam prep and filling some knowledge gaps given their experiences- as mostly everything I’ve ever inspected is commercial buildings. So residental is NOT something I’ve ever done.

Spent today nerviously doing the following:

1.) Completed the state license application
2.) Got finger printed for the state background investigation (that was the easy part)
3.) Filed my incorporation paperwork for an LLC.
4.) Secured a website domain (but haven’t built the website yet)

Next steps/ questions I’ll be muddling through (as I never done this) . . .

1.) Website design and navigating all that goes into it (credit/ debit card payment/ processing)
2.) Finding Liability Insurance
3.) Need to continue my education and determine what additional NACHI certificates to pursue.
4.) Enter what I’m forgetting to do (here) . . .

Its excting and scary at the same time. Venturing into waters I’ve never been through before.

Any hindsight 20/20 from the SUNachi crowd would be appreciated, as others have navigated this before and might have some (gems) lessions learned I’m not aware of . . .

  1. I used the Internachi website builder thing offered right here. Shrug. I don’t get any business from my website, but it does validate me. shrug.

  2. I used Hartford, also got it through the folks here.

  3. Anything you don’t understand. Do them all. See if you can get on some real homes with someone who is working

  4. Fill out your signature here. It will get indexed on Google. I do occasionally get calls out of the blue because they found me on Google through Internachi. Again shrug.

Just knocked out the insurance requirement, as FINALLY USAA begin offering business insurance (via Hartford).

I have a VA medical appointment tomorrow, and state office is literally 200 meters away. So I plan on dropping my application off with the state on my way to my medical appointment in the a.m.

DBPR is an interesting animal. Here is how my day played out . . .

When I initially filed for my HI contractors license, I found that Florida offered a fee waiver for military veterans. Filing fee was $180, and the waiver would take care of that. I remember thinking, “With that savings, I (almost) buy my mold pump.” :+1:

Then today I get an letter in the mail, stating my HI license cannot move forward because I have an application discrepancy: Lack of Licensing Fee Payment.

So here is where I messed. I filled out all hard copies of the application, both licensing and fee waiver, and hand delivered it into DBPR.

SO I call them, and when you get them on the phone, they’re actually pleassent to speak with and seem helpful. I explain the situation, they look at the file, and find both the application and fee waiver are actually there. Cool- we move forward . . . . No!!!

My fee waiver is only a partial waiver because the full waiver is only for people fresh out of the military.

Following conversation goes as follows:

Okay, I get it. So I get a $50 discount.
So can I pay the $130?
Sure can, we take card payment over the phone. Cool can I do that with you now?
No you need to call XYZ.
Call XYZ and pay the fee. Don’t a get a receipt with payments over the phone.

Call DBPR, tell them I paid my fee.

Told to show proof via a payment receipt.

How do I show you a receipt if you do not provide me one. I paid over the phone . . .

Her response, “I don’t know, I’ll call my supervisor and have to call you back.”

Hindsight 20/20, I should have applied online. She seem so dependent on that system that they don’t seem to know what to do without it. . .
