Hi Nick,
A contractor has asked me to inspect a new construction home. He said “it has to be a Fortified Evaluator”. This is new to me, different than wind mitigation. In Louisiana, to perform wind mitigation, you have to become certified through the state fire marshal. What I’ve learned so far is that IBHS offers training, but it’s for Members Only, and to be a member, one is required to work for a company listed in their “Member’s List”. The companies appear to be mostly insurance.
Any feedback is appreciated.
Info
A FORTIFIED designation is written certification that a home or business has been built, renovated, or re-roofed according to FORTIFIED standards. The designation certificate is issued by IBHS after reviewing the documentation provided by a FORTIFIED Evaluator. A FORTIFIED designation is required to receive LFHP grant funding.

Not sure how/why, but I think the Louisiana Dept Insurance plays a role in this process: Fortify Homes
