As part of the NACHI Foundation’s Safe House Campaign, Joe tedesco has graciously agreed to do a FREE online seminar on Electrical Safety for Home Inspectors. The class is expected to run approximately 1 hour. Dates are being discussed and will be released ASAP. The class will most likely be limited in size to keep the number manageable by Joe and to allow students to ask questions. If the class fills however, we will set up another. The goal is to allow every inspector the opportunity to take the seminar.
Joe will discuss ways inspectors can protect themselves from the hazards they face inspecting electrical systems. Judging from his past classes, there promises to be some great visuals and discussion. Plans are to include an open foum for the class to be left up for a few weeks after so class members can discuss.
More details will be announced shortly, as well as registration info. If you are interested, please PM me so we can begin to judge interest and plan for any future sessions.

I’ve gotten quite a few replies by PM too. Looks like the first class may fill up. We are trying to work out the logistics now. Looking at a mid to late August evening. If the first does indeed fill, we will do some more. The goal is to make sure everyone can get the infoo they need to inspect electrical systems Safely!
Thanks to Joe T., Senior Electrical Safety Advisor for the Foundation's Safe House Campaign, for graciously volunteering his time to prepare the material.

To Dan & Joe,
It’s sounds like a great Electrical Safety Seminar to be at but a lot of us out here will not be able to here or see this and get all this information your giving out. Do you think that this could be recorded? Maybe we could down load it off the net or ask Chris that man could figure out anything. If there are not a lot of visual aids used, how about just an audio tape?

Electric Shock
Please think about the following information from NFPA 70E www.nfpa.org and be prepared for suggestions that may be of help if you don't stop to think about what you are doing.

For those who will be involved in the first seminar, please think about the time that you made a mistake where electricity was involved.

Until we finallize the logistics, go to www.nhiti.com/courses and create a user name and profile. Feel free to personallize with your picture. As soon as we start registration, I will add those who want to be in the class to the student list and you can then access the class.

Is NHITI and The NACHI Foundation now the same? You guys keep pushing your private business in with NACHI.
If this is going to be the way you guys do things, Then I personally feel that you should not be the director of the Foundation and the Safe House Campaign. I think this is a major code of ethics violation. You seem to have a problem with keeping them separate. Just my opinion.

Ok Greg
You started it all off. Since you're the one pointing the finger about a MAJOR code of ethics violation, care to fully explain?
Let's see, both are active NACHI members, both have or had active inspection companies. The Foundation Chairman is involved in many different forms of business and consulting, one is an active fireman. Both have decided to channel efforts into building another business, training and education. The Foundation is actively sponsoring raffles to the Convention for adding to the Foundation funding. Plus providing contributions to worthy causes. Everything happening with the Foundation has been above the boards with information going out to all of the members of NACHI opting whether to participate or not.
As a sitting member of the Foundation, I'm taking offense to your statement about impropriety of the membership. I'm also a member of the Convention planning staff and a home inspector, with no connections to NHITI, am I violating a COE too? Where is written that this is wrong?

I especially take offense.
This is a free class. Open to ALL. The only affiliation with NHITI is the bandwidth we are using. The Foundation is sponsoring this class. It ties directly to the Safe House Campaign and our mission to protect both Home Inspectors and their clients. The Instructor is not being paid, in fact their is absolutely no money involved in this class anywhere! The only way this class could be done in this format was using an existing online training area.
As a NACHI member I work just as hard trying to HELP NACHI and promote NACHI as I do my own businesses. And like Paul asked where is the code of ethics violation. Nick has personally asked the businesses Gary and I run to offer NACHI members deals whenever possible, and to promote them on the board as much as possible.
And if you are concerned at wether our business ties to the Foundation, I would caution you against pointing fingers before checking your facts. Is there a code of ethics violation with someone who sets up education classes to do the same on a volunteer basis? And I am personally highly offended that you would even insinuate that there is anything shady happening between my businesses and the Foundation. Gary and I are not the only members of the Foundation, and to accuse us is to point at each and every one of the other members who are working hard as heel to make the Foundation and NACHI with it the talk of the industry(in good ways).

Greg B.,
It is your perogative to question any suspected impropriety. As a member of the Foundation I assure you that every precaution is in place in every phase of planning and execution of all projects sponsored by the NACHI Foundation.
I personally offer to you (or anyone else with concerns) my services as liason between you and the Foundation membership.
Please feel free to email or call with your specific ethics violations, disservices, or impropriety questions with all supporting facts that you may have. NACHI Membership participation in the NACHI Foundation seminars, projects, and raffles is vitally important to us.
