Gas outlet on deck adjacent to electrical outlet

The gas and electric outlets positioning seems unsafe, but I’ve had trouble finding any guidelines that fit this situation.

Anyone know of a specific distance these should be apart?

Thanks!
Jerry

As long as there is room for the connection, and the valve operation, its not a defect

NO. There is no potential hazard by them being close together.

Under the NEC you’re required to maintain clearance (IIRC 3’) between all electrical equipment and any gas devices that may vent gas as part of their normal operation. Devices that may release gas include gas meters and gas pressure reducers but probably does not include valves.

Thanks! Common sense says otherwise, so interesting to know that there is no requirement for spacing. All would have to happen is the valve doesn’t get closed completely and someone unplugs an appliance that isn’t turned off. I’ll just mention the gas outlet doesn’t have a plug installed.

Kinda dumb to have them that close, but not a defect.

So long as neither one of them leaks…

What is unsafe about it?

Gas + sparks = unsafe, unless inside an appliance designed to contain fire.

Canadian Gas Meter Codes, Clearance Distances & Regulations%22)
There must be a minimum of (3’) three feet (0.9m) separation between 'any part of the gas meter/regulation installation and any sources of ignition (i.e. open flames, electrical panels, switches, meters.)"
