Just looking for any advice or suggestions, regarding stating a home inspection career. I am licensed and insured and Florida (Brevard County). My only experience is with INTERnachi’s courses, I am curious about what is the best why to get out there and get some practical experience, any help is greatly appreciated. thanks.
Search this subject. There are tons of these questions covered here.
Understood, and thanks for the reply.
It’s a tough biz to break into since (in most areas anyway) it’s very easy to get into. Add to that the current market conditions with VERY limited housing inventory meaning it’s slower than a lot of us would like. Or, at least I’ll say my company has had busier spring seasons.
Your best bet would be to just hang out here and read all the topics you can. You’ll quickly get a feel for what the industry is about and what types of questions we all have day to day. TONS of good education here too. Also, I wrote a good book that you can find in my signature that has a lot of useful info related to your question.
Heard that. Will definitely check out the book, and thanks for the advice.
Welcome to our forum, Matthew!..enjoy participating.
Thanks for the warm welcome!
Matthew if Roy Lewis chimes in he would be more than happy to help you. He’s a Florida inspector and has helped many young people starting out.
I will keep an eye out for him, thank you for the heads up!
You may have to give the Bat Call out to Sir @rlewis5 …
Inspect friends and family houses. Give your report and listen to how they felt during the report. It is wrong to hand them the report and pictures and leaving. They need guidance of what you found. They need explanation and recommendation. An informed buyer and realtor now know the next step.
Thanks for the suggestion, have already done this with the two properties I’ve lived in for the last year. Will do at a friends to try and get feed back.
Don’t try… do!
Offer an inspection to your friends, and all you ask in return is their HONEST FEEDBACK!
