I am a newly licensed home inspector in Florida looking for in the field experience. Been applying to local home inspection companies in order to gain that experience with no luck. Have even offered to intern and work/learn for free. Any suggestions for me to gain the experience in order to get my business started? Thanks in advance!
Welcome James. Maybe Marc Goldenberg @mgoldenberg, Roy Lewis @rlewis5 or some other FL inspectors will chime in and will offer some advice. Probably the first question is; What part of FL are you located?
Good luck with getting your business going!
Jacksonville. Thank you!
James, you may want to contact some CMIs or CPIs within 40 to 50 miles, or closer, to your area and communicate with them. Maybe one, or more, will help you. Some inspectors feel as though they are training their competition by ride-alongs or mentoring or hiring.
Here is the link for CMIs: Find a Certified Master Inspector®
And the link for CPIs: Find Certified Home Inspectors Near You - InterNACHI®
And Mentors: Home Inspector Mentoring - InterNACHI® and InterNACHI® - International Association of Certified Home Inspectors
Also, you may want to take advantage of your Education Team at education@internachi.org for specific questions e.g. 15 Steps to Become a Successful Home Inspector - InterNACHI® and InterNACHI® Master Class for Home Inspectors . And there is the new training cards app Chris Morrell, our CEO, offers: New training app for home inspectors

P.S. Welcome to our forum. Enjoy!
Thank you for the information!
Don’t get discouraged. The industry is really slow right now due to high interest rates and general economic downturn. A lot of would-be buyers are waiting to see if house prices fall but sellers are a stubborn bunch and are very hesitant to lower prices. I’ve talked to a lot of agent/friends lately and their jobs are painful… trying to convince sellers they can’t add 20% to what their neighbor’s house sold for last year. All these things result in low sales volume and a decreased need for inspectors.
