Gooseneck rain cap?

One of my clients phoned me yesterday, “can goosenecks be used for chimney caps?”. So I thought I would go see for myself. His eavestrough guy had done this:shock:

You can fling a gooseneck about 50 feet from a two story roof:D

:roll::roll:

What is the chimney being used for wood or gas?

Gas, 91K BTU mid furnace and 36 Kbtu water heater. Everything underneath the goose neck was sopping wet from flue exhaust. If it had been been colder it could have plugged with ice.

I can understand the water issue but we don’t have those kind of temps for any duration for ice to be a problem
