Gray PVC cement

I know Oatey makes a gray heavy duty PVC cement, but I’ve never used it. I’m trying to figure out was was used on these pipes. It’s obviously a “handyman” special and I saw it on several other pipes in the crawlspace. Thanks!

I am not sure about the PVC cement. But is that an air gap?

Looks likes it’s been caulked to me. I’m not familiar with the gray PVC cement.

PVC cement doesn’t have the consistency of peanut butter, looks more like some kind of epoxy.

is that trap sideways or did I fall down again…

Here’s another view of the “trap”. I think they took the term “P” trap literally.

That should be in the WTF section.

I guess they were in a pinch…grey latex caulk might well get you to quitting time…

In this case I would say beer-30. :beers:

I’m not sure an air gap is good in this situation. Was it a bit shitty smelling in there?
the P-tap if installed correctly would really do nothing anyways.

JB Weld maybe?

Whatever it is, it needs a redo.

For sure. The globs of gray matter are the least worries.

Almost looks like a two part epoxy that you buy at Walmart that comes in a dual syringe. PVC glue and primer are too thin to make a mess like that. As someone else mentioned that looks like an air gap. What was draining into it?

Everything about this is wrong but with the drain not being under pressure and as long as there is no tension or movement caulk would probably seal just fine. LOL
