Manufactured homes are primarily produced for their low cost and ability to be built in a controlled environment any time of year. Extending from their desirable low cost is a tendency to build with less expensive materials, some of which have fallen out of favor. One such material is Polybutylene water supply plumbing. While it hit the mark for low initial cost, it was discovered later that the true cost of this material comes later when its high failure rate causes countless homes to require repairs from water damage. The photo supplied shows this material in the crawl space of a manufactured home with portions replaced by PEX water lines. No doubt the Polybutylene failed in this instance as well.

Like with any home purchase, buying a manufactured home comes with a great many, though often different, considerations. The smart home buyer will consider their options carefully and ask insightful questions to ensure the best outcome. Providing a good road-map to the complicated world of manufactured home buying, the InterNACHI article Manufactured Housing and Standards takes much of the guess work out of the process. The article advises on important questions to ask about the manufacturer and retailer warranties, how to select a site for placement, consideration for the look and size of your home, as well as all the many details involved in getting the home from the factory to site and ready to occupy. In many ways the process of purchasing a new manufactured home is more complicated than buying a conventional home, though it does offer a great deal of flexibility. The article concludes with what is biased, but excellent advice. Inspect your home; I would advise to have the aid of a professional.
