I-NACHI Inspector Injury/Death Benefit Fund

Two recent posts got me to thinking; I know everyone is thinking run for cover.
“Wouldn’t it be great if we started an Inspector Injury/Death Benefit Fund.”
There are systems/websitesalready in place or similar; one just needs to set up an account and the NACHI Ethics Board could administer any payments to deserving members or their surviving families.

Even as little as $1.00 per month per member would add up to a substantial amount of monies for those in need…

Seems like a good idea Barry and well worth implementing. However, rather than have the “ethics board” as you put it, oversee the project, I would suggest Nick appoint a committee to implement and run the program.

I CC: my post to FastReply@nachi.org we’ll see where this goes, I’m forever optimistic and think this would be another “NACHI did it first” announcements!

How does this proposal differ from: http://www.nachi.org/accidentinsurance.htm except maybe to know what the policy amount is and who the beneficiary is?

I think this is a great idea, and it just goes above and beyond the insurance deal. It shows that us members really give a rats bunghole about each other. We really do stick together and help each other and our families out in times of crisis. Excellent idea Barry. I nominate you as the first chair for this.

Although the linked policy is a GREAT benefit to our membership. There are numerous injuries, accidents, deaths and loss of income incidents that would not be covered under the terms of this policy…it’s not the end all-do all for those covered…and not all have been around long enough to have all of their ducks in a row business-wise…

I’m just trying to close the net a little tighter and a buck a month (or more) per members that choose to participate is not going to break anyone’s bank unless they’re broke already…if so we need to know what we may be able to do to help them through their rough time…

I hope to never see this used but reality tells me the day has and will come again…I pray it’s not someone you know…

Why am I explaining this?

Because it’s be brought up ump-teen times in the past with little to no interest. Keep at it though, you may be successful.

As Bartels and Jaymes once said, “We thank you for your support”

Barry, I think it’s a great idea and I’ll put up 100 bucks to start it off.

Just tell me where to send it.

Why don’t we just have it added to our dues. I do not think adding $12.00 on will not keep members from joining. If anything, it might increase the membership if advertised right.

Barry

Good idea

I backed off of it because of the need for controls and admin time. It might be time to think about this again. Nick sent me to nachi legal and after a long talk we had a start plan.

I am a great person for thinking up things and real bad about doing things

A little background

Build the fund

Pay out would be 10% of the fund per claim

Controls would be any nachi member that could do a site visit to the nachi member in need — NO QUESTIONS ASK —

Funding could be done as a check box for a $ amound at renewal time

It must not look like insurance

Nick had a good name call “The inspector down fund”

More thoughts please

I think it is a good idea. I’m in.

sounds good to me…

Yes I think with a little planning this could work out very well. I like the idea of putting as part of the dues, but I think that should be made an option not required. Also, as someone stated it cannot look like insurance. I think if we just had one or two members in charge of this it would probably work best. That way it doesn’t have to be corparate and the money would end up in the right place. No taxes and all the other hoopla involved.

Lots of great throw down offers and ideas from you guys.
Please put your thinking caps on and help come up with some concrete agreeable terms and conditions about administering.

I like the local self policing but think two’s company, threes a crowd should curtail or stop attempts at defrauding the fund and there may be some need for questions to be asked. ex: my wife donates to breast cancer research, ocasionally we hear of a woman having the worst time of it and send a private donation directly to her.
In some cases NACHI public attention could better benifit…just thinking out loud…

I was asked by e-mail to set this up and here was my reply.
Sure I could and then it would be Barry Adair’s fund and not NACHI fund.
I’d also be liable for the taxes on any interest gained and all of the other potential legal and financial ramifications I’m unaware of.
I was thinking along the lines of NACHI membership not just myself setting this up and administering.
Any suggestions would be appreciated as I’m ignorant when it comes to non-profit law and what ever would be required to do this right.

Let’s get 'er done!

Peter,
Very generous but hold that thought and your $s, for now.

Richard,
I’ll call to query you on what you have done so far after work 04-29-08.
I have two that are logistically worlds apart so it will be about 8-9 PM no later.

OK

Count me in.

Appears the powers that be want me to go this alone.
Here is the reply I received to the above.
Just set up an account, nothing to it. Then ask members to donate I guess.

I’ll consider this under further advisement by “my powers that be, an Attorney.”
