I****nternational Association of Certified Home Inspectors Quits Missouri Housing Industry Alliance
Nick Gromicko, founder and Executive Director of the International Association of Certified Home Inspectors (iNACHI), the largest professional home inspector association in the United States, announced that he was pulling out of the Missouri Housing Industry Alliance, effective immediately.
“According to our Missouri members,” said Gromicko, “the MHIA only pretends to be a coalition of housing industry members. The agenda for the association seems to be controlled entirely by the Missouri Association of Realtors and geared toward its interests.”
According to Jim Bushart, President of the Missouri Chapter of the National Association of Certified Home Inspectors, “We have sent representatives to MHIA meetings to present opposition to the real estate sales associations agenda to advance legislation that puts them in control over what home inspectors report to their clients, only to be told that they were out of order. Only proponents of their agenda are allowed to speak at these so called ’coalition’ meetings.”
Missouri HB 2057 that is being supported by the Missouri Association of Realtors has recently been opposed by a national consumer protection group, Homeowners Against Deficient Dwellings, as well as all but one of the Missouri home inspector associations.
“This so-called coalition is being used to present to the public a false image of wide support for a very narrow agenda,” says Bushart.
“I am proud that Mr. Gromicko has put the weight of the largest association of home inspectors in the nation behind our effort to alert the public to be wary of it," Bushart added. “Home inspectors need to operate outside of the influence of anyone who will gain, financially, from the sale of the home and must only be accountable to the consumer who hires them for a complete, professional and unbiased report on the condition of the property that they are considering to purchase. Since the MHIA cannot support that agenda, there is no way that we can support theirs.”
