These joist hangers are fitted into the stringers via notches that the bottom of the hangers fit into.

These joist hangers are fitted into the stringers via notches that the bottom of the hangers fit into.
That is called “an ad hoc construction technique.”
Looks pretty cheesy. There are hangers made for stair stringers that wrap under and down the bottom edge of the wood. The deck screws in the hangers aren’t kosher either.
Wrong hanger for the job, this is what’s needed:
That sure wasn’t done by a qualified carpenter, that’s for sure. Wrong hangers and fasteners.

Yeah the header is warped. Here’s a photo of the top of the stringer, as seen while standing on the stairs:
I can’t believe nobody brought up these dangerous items.
