All,
A new-construction home buyer contacted me last month about performing the phase inspections for the new home he was having constructed. During my interview the "A" word came up and he asked if I was a member (the builder suggested that if he was going to have an outside inspector he use an someone who was an "A" member) I opened my NACHI binder and went through my qualifications, training, experience and affiliations and he was satisfied.
Later he calls me and says that I need to meet with his builder. Today I met with Linda Wernicke, Senior Sales Representative of Sunrise Homes. Needless to say I will be performing the phase construction inspections for my client as they were very impressed with our COE and SOP and the "A" word never came up.

We have been meeting with the nation’s 2 largest lenders: One I don’t have permission to reveal, but you can figure it out, the other is Wells Fargo. They are considering insisting or at least recommending home inspections on every deal… NACHI members exclusively.
Then "N" word never sounded better.

Nice job. Did you get them to recognize NACHI and to stop telling their customers to call the A...inspectors?
You know when you really get down to it, most folks are only looking to do the best they can for their clients. If you were ever involved in the computer industry, the old saying was "Nobody ever got fired for recommending IBM", well same here, since the "A" association is all they have really ever heard about, it is only natural for them to recommend "A". The real kicker in all this is, time-and-time again we find, there is NO brand loyalty, and there never will be. Bottom line... the Home Inspection profession is a people business, and people do business with people they like.
As far as the Agitated-And-Ready-To-Kick-Butt Burkeson is concerned, clients seem to view it more as poised confidence, just this morning someone shared that very statement with me. Hopefully, these inspections will be conducted in a professional caring manner and in so doing promote both NACHI and my own company.

Nick, I belong to a leads group that was founded by a higher-up for Wells Fargo here in Tampa, please keep me in the loop when you have further information as I have been trying to do more business with them.

Hi Joe,
I also have had someone ask me if I was a member of the "A" association, and that they were told not to hire an inspector unless he was.
My response was:
No but I am a member of NACHI who have a very strong COE and a very in depth SOP that I abide by. To become a member of NACHI I had to pass an exam, that incidently half of the people who take fail. Also to be a member of NACHI I must complete yearly requirements of continuing education and re-take the exam annually,
Then I tell them to go to EBAY and do a search for "Home Inspection" and take note of who's exam/questions & answers you can buy for less than $20.00. Memorize it, then take the test.

It would be quicker and more effective to have them search for
“ASHI Home Inspection”.
Notice though, that NACHI Exam also comes up on both of those searches also. Though we know it's s#!t, the seller puts it there so his little exam prep will come up if someone searches for it.
Some people will sell anything. This guy is into a bunch of stuff.
