Only spent 2 weeks studying on my off time from work.
I didn’t use nachi’s prep so I cannot comment on how good it is.
The usefulness of material from most to least is as follows.
Black and Decker’s code for home owners
National code book
NHIE books
AHITs test prep. The test prep uses the old rise for risers.
I looked at crampucram. Though it is most like the test. I didn’t use it as of some errors I was seeing.
The test makes use of some fairly misleading photos. I had a photo a chimney without counter flashing. It had what it looked like flashing painted the same color as the brick. You can see it a little of the flash next to the shingles. Also a small section you can see it lifted off the chimney. I picked it needed counter but who knows. They could have wanted the other other option of under flashing and counter flashing.
Looking at the board of NHIE.
I didn’t see any engineers on it or subject matter expert’s on trades. That given, I didn’t review all of them.
Now I’m going get licensed for lead inspections. Some counties require rental inspections to be performed by a licensed home inspectors. State requires rentals before 1975 to certificated lead free or inspected between each tenant for lead.
Going to work on a lot of InterNACHI materials before I start full on home inspections.
