Kitchen sink drain - Gravity?

Inspection on a wonderful flipped house, this is the kitchen drain. The outlet from the disposal is lower than the drain pipe… I happened to look down inside the disposal and saw standing water…

Super common for awhile now that everyone buys undermount sinks that are 10-12 inches deep. The older plumbing rough-ins were never designed for that configuration, don’t know why they just don’t leave the disposal out.

This is a badly flipped house… they throw in the bells and whistles, so it gets a disposal and quartz counters…

oh… and don’t forget the gold-colored hardware…

See it often enough that I have a pre-written comment exactly for it. Under sinks is a target-rich area when you stop and really look. It’s an area I will admit I went too fast in my early years and actually wrote a check for OP’s exact issue… for some reason that makes me slow down and look closer

This looks like a candidate for the WTF Thread…

Water does not drain after the trap and flow upstream. Poorly plumbed kitchen drain and under sink disposal.
Refer to a licensed plumbing contractor to make the required plumbing drain modifications.

There are holes in the backing of the kitchen sink cabinet surface. Don’t forget to write up the damaged kitchen cabinetry backing. Recommend a licensed cabinet maker repair the prior drilled plumbing supply water and drain pipe bore holes.

No wonder there was backsplash everytime the disposal was turned on. :sweat_drops:

Seriously?
What a totally outlandish statement that you will get laughed out-of-town, and likely out-of-business, for!!

Did it lots of times. Never got negative feed back.

Standing water within the disposal could possibly cause back flow into the dish washer, correct?

A high loop helps but with pressure, sure.
