Since it was energized I would call it active. The photo’s you posted show that it is still in the open air and has not been covered with insulation, which is good. Unfortunately, insurance companies generally frown on K & T wiring.

A note of caution, those sniffers can give false readings if another energized cable is nearby. Try and find a location to test that is far from other cables.

You should check it farther/further away from the NM cable, as stray electric current can be picked up by those non-contact testers.

That isn’t single strand K&T.
They are just using the k&t’s.
