Correct. The more times you take a similar version of an exam, the more it becomes a test of memory. But that is true for all exams, whether they are proctored or not.
That’s one of the reasons we use so many different quizzes and exams at InterNACHI: www.nachi.org/rigorous2006.htm
Not true by far…
I took a test from the IAQA and it was NOTHING like we were taught, you actually had to know your stuff. I also took the test from ESA the Master Indoor Environmental Specialist and there is no practice exam, you either know it or you fail. Can just wing those in a day…
Miss our debates?
Yes, but that isn’t the point. Proof by extremes: Had you taken the IAQA exam or ESA exam (proctored or unproctored), over and over and over 100 times… it would have become a test of memory. This is true for all exams.
The difference being there is NO practice test to study over and over…its the BOOKS you have to study over and over…
You are making the incorrect assumption that all quizzes and exams are used to test what you have learned. That is not their purpose. The exams and especially quizzes, are used to teach, not to test. They are learning tools not evaluation tools.
The Florida proctored exam was neither as it was only administered to the 40% of the people who already passed an unproctored version of it. Read http://exams.nachi.org/oe/stats.php (link takes a couple minutes to compile and open).
Well then your right…I always thought tests were administered to determine what you know, and I still think that. Then why do they teach in schools? Why not just give kids exams after exams? Let them learn the answers and then pass the…well we can’t call them tests now because…well its not really testing Knowledge.
TEST: a : a means of testing: as (1) : a procedure, reaction, or reagent used to identify or characterize a substance or constituent (2) : something (as a series of questions or exercises) for measuring the skill, knowledge, intelligence, capacities, or aptitudes of an individual or group
EXAM: test of knowledge or ability: a test designed to assess somebody’s ability or knowledge in a particular subject or field
QUIZ: test of knowledge: a test of knowledge in the form of a short or rapid series of questions ( often used after nouns )
So do you just make up your own definition for words? I looked them up and NOT ONE of them mentions teaching…
Good question Russell. They don’t do that in schools for the same reason InterNACHI doesn’t do it. Although quizzes are a learning tool, they don’t teach you anything by themselves. So taking quiz after quiz in an effort to memorize answers isn’t going to teach you anything. The quizzes have to be between blocks of education to be effective learning tools. And that is exactly how InterNACHI uses it’s quizzes. Take one of our many inspection courses to see how quizzes are sandwiched between blocks of training and how the quizzes teach the student by revealing what was missed or misunderstood.
It’s the same reason your 6th grade grammar teacher handed you back your quiz after she graded it.
In the spirit of working together and in an effort to provide full transparency, I hope the leaders of Florida NACHI have invited the other members of the coalition to attend this event. As Mr. Bertsch is the coalition’s lobbyist, I think it would be beneficial to our cause to have ALL the organizations there. It would also give all the associations the opportunity to brief their respective members with the latest information from Mr. Bertsch with respect to legislative action that affects home inspector licensing and our small businesses.
They have been invited
