Main service panel double taps question

Hello, All

Today I am doing a 1994 house inspection.
I open the main service panel and see this “sub feed lugs” with double taps. However, these two small wires directly go down into another small box under the service panel. I do not think these small wire go anywhere because the small box under the panel is end.

What is this? If these two small wire not useful, why not take off, but plus a box under the panel?

What did this say?

Well, at least take a good enough picture so the rest of us can read it, lol.

What for, it’s been ID’d already.

As JJ posted above, it is most likely a surge protector. :+1:

That said, always capture any text or labels on something you are not sure about. Makes it super easy to find out what it is later.

Anyway, tomorrow my daughter’s class is 8 mins from the property.

OK, if it is a surge protector, it can double taps into the SUB FEED LUGS?

Go back and read my post!

I saw it, you said it is improperly wired. What is the correct way?

Nope! Those lugs are likely not designed to have two conductors. Especially two conductors so different in size.

First, READ the unit for the Manufacturer! Then Google the Item number for the install manual to see what the Manufacturer requires.

Second, beware of the Catch 22 scenario. Regardless what the Manufacturer states in their manual, double taps ARE NOT allowed!!

I find out another FL inspector see the exactly same condition as this

Will it work? Most likely.

Is it correct? No.

I call out lots of guard rails that have spacing between the balusters that is too large. Has anyone died? Probably not. Could someone die? Maybe.
