So when it rains or the snow melts, that water goes into the soil way ABOVE the drain tiles and on longer, heavier rains it saturates the soil waaay ABOVE the drain tiles! Increased lateral soil pressure has already occurred!
It takes a long time on most homes for water to get DOWN to the drain tiles and so when a homeowner has a crack or deteriorated rod hole or cracked deteriorated parging etc in foundation wall, THAT is why the basement leaks, NOT because of some supposed need for new weeping tiles.

Because… a) most of the time the exterior tiles were fine b) EVERY time there was a crack, cracked parging and-or other exterior openings in the foundation wall and sometimes above the foundation wall. The few times we’ve replaced some drain tiles were NOT why the basement leaked… sheesh that is one of most incompetent things we hear.
