Mystery plumbing pipe

Hi All;

Observed this apparent one way waste line inlet in a crawlspace today; the inlet has a flap designed to allow flow through. The 3 inch ABS you see is coming through the floor in the kitchen area, and terminates at the mouth of the PVC. This assembly is next to the main waste line; you can see both exiting through the wall.

This home is a 2005 build, and has experienced water ingress issues in the past, which were supposidly repaired by the builder under warranty.

The way is is configured, and the sheer size if it is something I have never seen before.

Anyone have any experience with something like this?

PVC Backwater Valve roughed-in for a system.

The slope in the ABS waste line is longgg and aggressive.

Are you saying that the black pipe that ends at the opening to the PVC pipe is actually 3"?

This is correct

It’s a strange setup; I’ve never run across something like it before.

Morning, Steven. Hope this post finds you well and in good spirits today.

I have seen long sewer pipe slopes like this in older crawlspaces. Cast iron hub and spigot and ABS sewer line pipes. The PVC backwater valve rough-in is I suspect for, fume, exhaust or ventilation.

Could the small ABS pipe be for condensate? Did you look into that during your inspection process?
