Nachi Continuing Ed

Anyone notice that the Ohio Continuing Education hours for most of the approved courses almost doubled! I have a certificate from 2023 where I completed the 25 Standards Every Inspector Should Know for 6.25 Hours. If I go and reprint that certificated now, it has 16 hours for the credits! Exam code and issued on date are identical on both certificates. After looking over some pass courses I did a couple years ago, it seems many courses are now issuing much more credit hours.

Inflation. It is everywhere

I checked the course I took last year for my CE and it has gone from 16 CEUs to 37.

The only thing I can see is the “approval date” of 8/13/2024 for the course was listed as being after I took the course, so maybe there have been changes to the course after re-approval that increased the CEUs.

I always print my certs out as soon as I pass the course.

Did you check the States Requirements? Perhaps your required CE’s also Doubled/Tripled!!

I’m hoping it isn’t a mistake by Nachi. I saw one course that was giving 57 hours credit!!! I print my certificates out as well when I take them and just about all of them are showing almost double credit hours if I do a reprint. Doesn’t make a whole lot of sense really…

I was looking for a way to contact someone through email or phone at Nachi in regards to the differences however I can’t find a contact email or phone number.

I’m pretty sure they would have notified everyone, many times, by now if that wass the case.

Also, it would require a change in the law as it’s currently written, and that would be no easy feat that would take a few years to happen.

I don’t think it’s a mistake because the hours on NACHI site and the state site are the same for the approved courses. Be sure to check the state approval dates of the specific courses you took against the date you completed it.

Another option is to try @bgromicko1 or @gromicko to see if they will offer up any help or an explanation to the changes. :grinning:

Yeah its kind of confusing. I took the residential plumbing in November of 2022 for 8 credit hours. If I reprint the certificate it is for 37 hours… The state approval date is 8-13-2024 through 8-13-2027. So would that mean I wouldn’t get my 8 hours credit from 2022?

Each InterNACHI course has a certain number of CE hours associated with it using a federal government formula for assigning hours to a course.

States mostly award the same number of hours, but not always.

So theoretically, a course could count for a certain number of hours at InterNACHI… but with each state that it is approved in, awarding a totally different number of hours for the same course, while some states not approving it at all. Remember, we are the United “States.” So it’s kind of like 50 different countries. Check your state site to see how many hours they award for each course, if that is what you are interested in knowing.

I’m pretty sure you’ll still get your 8 hours as long as it was approved for that at the time.

But if you have any doubts I would say to call the state.
Let us know what they say if you call. :grinning:

Any updates James? @jtaylor14

Yes, Sophia tried to submit my two courses from 2022/2023 to the state today however they just responded back to her that I need to submit them when I do my license renewal… So basically just waiting until then to see if they are going to still approve the courses. I do have the original certificates however she did say they can make a custom certificate if you do not have the originals.

Good deal.

Yes, all CEs need to be submitted when you renew your license, although I thought NACHI sent them over electronially as well at the time of completion.

On your cert there should be an OH Course number in the lower RH corner. (see mine from last year below)

I know whenever I completed any courses there was the option to download one or both the state cert and the NACHI cert. I always download and save both.

Did you ever get any explanation or reason for the differences on the CE hours?

Yeah, I understand all that. I went through a renewal a couple years ago and it was a pretty smooth process. I need 8 more hours to complete my three year cycle and when I was looking at the courses I noticed they were issuing way more credit hours than when I originally took them. That’s kind of what got me digging a little more into it. Then when I did a license look up, I noticed those particular courses weren’t showing on my state transcript.
