Nick, I thought the whole point of NACHI was to help new inspector not keep them out.
This new thinking troubles me.

Really , well if you did that there would be 2000 less inspectors mostly ASHI folks, Look at you’re best ashi guy tucsonhomeinspector.com he is a CMI and an ASHI member, when you boot him I will follow. He was only a member for the CMI as I gather.
Todd, huh? It is diploma mill ASHI which has no entrance requirements whatsoever http://www.ashi.org/inspectors/join/candidate_application1.htm and is now an association of about 70% Candidates you must be thinking of. Fresh out of school inspectors can always go to “send in a $ and shazam” ASHI if they want to join an association.
As for the logo clarification Joe Farsetta gave us (above)… it does not apply to CMI. CMI is association-neutral. NACHI of course isn’t and is not obligated to be. Staff regularly deletes members in violation of our COE.

It is good to know someone as capeable as Joe farsetta is at the helm…
:roll::roll::roll::roll::roll::roll:
Joe F. you are a dick, and a petty person.

It is, indeed. Fix that website and get back in here before we hit 10,000, Todd.
Todd,
I have absolutely no friggin’ idea what you are talking about. I am e-mailing from the Phoenix airport. I was in town teaching a well class today.
I was/am/ not involved in any of this.
As to the “dick” comment, all I can say is it takes one to know one.
To the logo clarification, I am damned tired of members of other orgs joining NACHI for the sole purpose of taking advantage of our Internet tools and member benefits. Many of these “members” never mention that they are embers of the org, let alone include our name or logo in anything they do.
They join for access to this message board, and to compete with our members using our association tools against them. This is wrong. If you join the association, you should include it somewhere on your website and printed literature.
I never called you out. Grow up, will you?
Joe F
I’m glad you pointed that out. I had totally forgotten that. Though it does say revocation can occur at anytime I would hope that notice would be given as a courtesy to some that may have not properly included the logo as e mere oversight. I also believe that this would be more properly positioned prominently in “membership requirements” rather than in the COE.
You forgot it because it didn’t exist before.
The COE says this: “The NACHI member shall assist the NACHI leadership in disseminating and publicizing the benefits of NACHI membership”
It says NOTHING about being forced to add NACHI logos to all materials and websites. That is a special Joe F. “clarification”.
They are VERY different.
You say clarification, I say fabrication.
Seriously. Please put that in the membership requirements page to plainly see. Even if it is in the COE quiz, it can be easily overlooked.
I would be happy to see those go that are truly using membership to use NACHI but not support it. We in Wisconsin may need those vacancies as we need to grow the number of NACHI members here to make a stronger presence here.
I realize that the cap thing is not likely to prevent our growth but I think this whole announcing the CAP thing is *** backward.
Announce a reminder to all members of the logo/support policy and why. Go after and get rid of all the ASHI/NAHI users and visit the cap issue later.
If there are really so many of these abusers here, by all means have at them. This talk about a cap in the middle of a big effort to get new members in our state to grow our chapter comes off a bit like a sucker punch.
I have no doubt that the leadership is aware that strong chapters are a good way to keep serving members well and develop quality members that contribute and support NACHI.
So if you want to get rid of the “users” get going. We need those slots.
One should read the code of ethics regularly - it helps to keeps one’s keel from running aground. In the yellow pages locally there are several NACHI members advertising ASHI and NAHI but no NACHI… their loss. The cap? Fiction! IMHO. But my NACHI membership won’t be allowed to expire. I get asked if I’m certified nearly every day.
TG
Nick, Nick, Nick! Now I know what’s fishy here!
That is NOT part of the COE but a condition of membership added to the bottom of the COE page but NOT part of the COE. It is not even an ethical issue, but a new condition of membership.
As a condition of membership it belongs on the membership requirements page and not on the bottom of the COE page.
Make it an actual policy rather than rely on the interpretations. As a clarification of what the COE states, it is absolutely preposterous.
Talk about making **** up. I understand Joe’s intent but p-u-l-e-e-z-e!
Like the old saying goes, “If your going to do it, you might as well do it right”, and this just plain ain’t right.
I agree. If this is a condition of membership it belongs on the requirements page.
Joe Michalski is incorrect.
There is no requirement forcing members to add NACHI logos to all materials and websites and never has been one. Joe Farsetta himself doesn’t have a NACHI logo on his own site. Where do you get this stuff?
Anyway, Joe Michalski is incorrect.
David,
We did not make this up. It has been policy for quite a while now, though rarely enforced. However, with the onslaught of new inspectors from competing associations using our Internet presence, and sniping at us behind the scenes, the time had come to start to enforce what had always existed.
Nick is correct in that I do not have a NACHI logo on my site. I do have a NACHI link, and mention that I am a member of the org. Even if I didnt, I’d still be okay, because I belong to no other association.
As to ejecting Todd, I assure you, I had no idea. Whether this is a condition of membership or falls under a COE violation is moot. The point is that the rule has existed for a long time (at least 3 yerars), and that one can be ejected at any time. I was not asked for a COE clarification. I was asked what the policy has been.
I agree that, perhaps, this should be posted as a condition of membership.
As to notifying before acting, I guess that, depending on the member, we certainly would provide a request or warning before acting. For others, who are hell-bent on maligning NACHI, we may not. NACHI does not have to.
Joe Farsetta is correct.
His clarification (IF YOU READ IT CAREFULLY) does not even apply to most members. It only affects visible NACHI members who belong to one or more other associations and advertise so. In that rare case we simply ask that they give NACHI equal prominence in their marketing. If a member wants to hide all his associations on an obscure page of his website… that is fine too. If he wants to put them big and bold on his homepage… that is fine too. We simply require equal prominence.
Nick,
You posted the “clarification” Joe put at the bottom of the COE page yourself. that is where everyone is getting it.
Did you read it? it says “*To that end, a condition of membership in the organization is for any member that has a web site, brochure, or other marketing literature to include NACHI and/or “The National Association of Certified Home Inspectors” (in word, link, and/or text). Should another home inspection association be listed or referred to, it shall be positioned and sized in a manner equal to, or less prominent than that of NACHI. Should any member be found in violation of this rule, membership revocation can occur at any time, and without notice or recourse.”
*If you didn’t mean that to be a rule I hope you reign Joe in before he makes up all kinds of new rules and claims them to be policy. It has happened before but this is the first time he actually put it on the web site as opposed to a members only area where you couldn’t see it.
When did being on the Ethics and SOP Committee give one the right to make up policy disguised as an ethics issue? Geeze, he’s beginning to remind me of Russ.
As Joe said, we are being more aggressive about enforcing this as of late because of the influx of inspectors from other associations.
Yes, but David… that clarification you quoted does not require members to add NACHI logos to anything.
Is there some other clarification that you are referring to? The one you posted does not require members to add NACHI logos to anything.
