I actually printed out the list once. When a realtor asks me how big NACHI is, I pull out over 50 pages of members names. They are happy to see that.
How does our number compare to other orgs?

Hmmm. As of January 6th, ASHI had about 5667 members and candidates. A little over 100 people join as a candidate each month, but most of them do not stick it out and become members.
Nick when you say "biggest", were you going by average height or is my math fuzzy?

I'm assuming they don't mean largest in number of members. Unless of course they are counting their own gazillion Candidates who have yet to pass an exam. ASHI says Candidates are NOT members. I agree. Hell if you count them as members, I count everyone who tried to join NACHI but couldn't pass our exam as Candidates. (over 7,000). That 7,000 + invisible members + 1180 FHA consultants + interNACHI + featued inspectors makes us about 3 times larger. And we should be 5 times as large after the ASHI branding bills go out in Feb.

or perhaps the largest panic attack (the real need for branding, I suspect),
or perhaps the largest NEED for a gigantic hearing aid (they ignore their candidate and full member's voices, so they must be deaf or hard of hearing)
or perhaps the largest hoodwink (the branding thing again),
or perhaps the largest egos in the industry.
Yeah, the ego thing... that's the ticket!

If, by ASHI big wig you mean someone who has never held a position in the national organization, never sat on a national committee, someone who the vast majority of members have never even heard of, but who has been involved in his local chapter, then yes, I'm a very big wig. One of the biggest.

That really frosts my cake. Here I am, nearly unaffiliated, posting my butt off in these forums, trying to fit in and be one of the guys and JIM MORRISON gets the offer to join for free. Well, that just beats all. I'm miffed.

NACHI nor I ever sent a mass mailing to ASHI members offering them free membership. If you have a copy of one, post it here. It is fraudulent.
We have offered free membership to some particular inspectors if we thought they had an unusual free-thinking idea on the industry and wanted them to help us.
All of the NACHI members in our Korean group, put together by Min Kyung are free. They have enough headaches with that whole Korean symbol thing. We won't let them on our sites and we don't enable Korean characters as some of them are used and therefore confused by html.
We have offered free membership to a few inspectors who worked their tails off for NACHI in some way.
I think spouces are free and partners in the same company are only charged $100.
We offered free membership to Canadians because several of our membership benefits are not available in Canada yet. Some don't have all the features like www.FindAnInspector.US for example. And we're trying to get enough of them to entice an E&O insurance discount.
I personally pay for any inspector in Kentucky to join NACHI, KOI, and KREIA, but that has nothing to do with NACHI. This week I've written quite a few personal checks to NACHI and KREIA. I am not a member of KREIA and weild no control over them.
I personally pay for some member's membership dues for a variety of personal reasons, but that has nothing to do with NACHI.
None of the staff at NACHI pays membership dues of course.
From 1990 to 2002 (11 or 12 years), no one had to pay renewal dues. We didn't even have bills. That's right... They paid $289 once and rode for free till 2002.
None of the invisible government officials who monitor the industry from this message board, and now recently... insurance investigators pay to be members. They are nonetheless full members with access to everything they want.
Jim: You might be confusing our Chapter announcements which are open and free to all. Actually, all our local chapters are free. I know of no NACHI Chapter which charges dues... Someone correct me if I'm wrong. Here are some of the announcements: http://www.nachi.org/events.htm
As a matter of fact: NACHI & ASHI long ago agreed not to use each other's membership lists to entice members to "switch." This agreement has never been broken by either party. This agreement has been in writing, in effect, and honored for some time. Our Chapter announcements are not invitations to join NACHI for free, but only to attend our Chapter meetings for free. Our Chapter meetings are not just open and free to ASHI members...they are open and free to all.
Jim: If you get a third mass email offering free membership to ASHI or NACHI, PLEASE... send it to me... and send it to ASHI too. They have a right to know.
And finally Jim, if you join NACHI, I will personally pay for your membership. I think you are a NACHI member at heart.

I may have misspoken, so please let me clarify.
Last year I received 2 very different emails within a month or two offering me a free membership in NACHI. I didn't keep copies of them, so you'll just have to take my word for it. One of them was from you, I don't recall who signed the other one. I assumed my name was retrieved from ASHI membership data because several other members reported receiving the same letter at the same time.
I assume I was asked to join NACHI because I am an occasionally vocal critic of ASHI. At the time, I had made very public my anger over the way the Branding campaign was being foisted upon the membership.
If ASHI ever offers to waive my dues, I will personally hand deliver the letter to your house. In fact, I'll do it while wearing a flower print dress, my mother's Sunday shoes, and carrying every Joe I've ever sparred with on this forum (three by my count). Don't wait up.
Your offer to cover my NACHI dues is very generous and I thank you, but haven't we both lost enough hair already?
