Our own Joe Farsetta was asked to be a guest inspector on CNN’s “Open House” program. The segment will air this Saturday, at 9:30 am. “Open House” specializes in teaching people how to invest wisely in real estate. The show’s host is Gerry Willis, noted real estate expert, and renowned author.
The CNN crew followed Joe for 4 1/2 hours recently, filming him on an actual inspection. After all was said and done, the taping will be boiled down into a 6 minute segment. A sampling of defects and findings will be highlighted, with interaction between Gerry and Joe along the way.
Joe said that the experience was "fantastic", and looks forward to working with CNN againe. Its nice to know that they chose a NACHI inspector for this unique segment.
The show mentions being your own inspector, but even the host acknowledges that hiring a professional is the only way to go. Joe shows some tips for initial evaluation prior to making an offer, and stresses the importance of having a thorough and complete inspection performed by a qualified inspection professional.
Be sure and watch Joe this weekend. 9:30am CNN's Open House.

Thanks, Guys
It was an interesting experience, to say the least. I mentioned NACHI about 15 times. Never cursed once!
I hope that the NACHI name makes it to the air. Last Saturday they mentioned ASHI. Funny how they reached out to NACHI for an inspector for this weeks show, specifically geared to inspecting homes.
I just hope I dont get bushwhacked!
Anyway, the host and film crew were a lot of fun. I even managed to convince the camera man to come up onto the roof with me!

Yeah… especially when I was told not to use words such as “box header” or “sill plate”, because viewers wouldnt know what I was talking about. I had to say “the pieces of lumber that come in contact with the top of the foundation wall”. Duh…
Or not being able to comment on a repaired waste line, but having to concentrate on the damaged sheetrock wall in the garage (behind the pipe), and a loss of fire-rating.
There were huge holes in some of the explanations... Even with the dirt I found in the crawlspace, cause by rodent activity and not from WDI activity. The camera man was reluctant to follow me in, because of the spider webs!
But hey, that's show biz, I guess. I have a whole lot more respect for some of those guys on House Detective, that's for sure!
Like I said. We'll have to see what makes it to the air!
Thanks for the kind words, guys...

Good for you, Joe. Congratulations to you & NACHI. Does this mean we will have to pay you now to come & speak at chapter meetings? Or will kneeling as you come in be good enough? Just kidding, of course, Joe. This is great. Maybe this can be a way to promote NACHI nationwide!!!

I'm jealous. What's an Inspector have to do to be on TV.
Do me a favor. Send those damn TV cameras to my area. I'll put on one hell of a show.
Ask and you shall receive. Mike Wallace and the "60 Minutes" crew are on their way, David. Deny everything.
