This could use a few tweaks.
- Remove ground rod from the parenthesis adjacent to “metal in ground support structures”. A ground rod is not a support structure and is a separate type of electrode (pipe and rod electrodes) so it should be listed separately as such.
- The water meter requires a bonding jumper around it. There appears to be an extra ground clamp to the left of the meter that is not doing anything.
- The box on the lower left is a note referencing the CEE (concrete encased electrode). It should say “The concrete encased electrode must be a minimum of 20’ of #4 bare copper or 20’ of 1/2" or larger rebar encased in at least 2” of concrete in contact with the earth. The graphic appears to show rebar encased in the concrete so it should be mentioned in the note that rebar is also acceptable.
Agree. As written, it infers that ONLY Copper is allowed for this application.
The graphic also doesn’t show a rod or a note that the GEC to a rod never needs to be larger than #6 copper in addition to the errors Robert has pointed out.
Thanks fellas. We’re working on updating.
IMO… the Bonding Jumper at the Water Meter should also be identified, (and stated as being “Required”). It is common in (Minnesota) for a ‘Handyman’ or other “less experienced” person to Winterize a home, thus the water meter gets removed and the jumper gets disconnected! Virtually nobody is going to verify that the continuity of the metal water piping hasn’t been compromised.
Thanks.
I believe that there was a GEC to the water pipe in the first graphic but now it’s missing.
