Anyone have recommendations for an excellent program for inspection reports? I’ve looked around and found a few but I’d like to hear from real inspectors, not some web site promoting their materials. Please let me hear what you use and/or recommend.

I use the Matrix Reporting software from ITA. I learned on it and I like it. It produces a clean, high quality report. http://www.home-inspect.com

Reporthost has a decent online report service http://www.reporthost.com It takes a while to get it "just right," but as a NACHI member you'll get 30 free (hint, hint).

Porter Valley (IMHO) by far has the superior software program. A bit pricey, but well worth it. http://www.pvsoftware.com/index.shtml

Don’t buy a thing till you check out “ReportHost.com” It is "FREE (to test), Flexible, and Fast. As a new inspector I find it easily allows me to modify my report as my knowledge and experience grows. And once you have used your free allotment of 30 - yes I said “30”… reports… Then its only $5.00 per report…

I am still trying to figure out what report to use also. I’ve notice on some messages people talk about report host, do they have a field check list or something to use when doing the inspection that corresponds to the report.

Yes they do. You print out the checklist before the inspection and use it as a guide to write the report. I use reprt host and have nothing but good things to say. And the service is second to none. I have made two suggestions for changes and within weeks, those changes were made.

please explain more about report host? You print it and take with you? Or do you need a PDA? Or is it a narrative? I wanted something to deliver on site. Thanks!

The checklist is printed and brought to the site to help you take notes. You bring the info back and plug in your info via the internet with photo’s. Your report is online, so all you do is send your client a link to the report which they can open and view using any internet browser (internet explorer, Netscape, etc.) Your client can just print off their own copies saving you $$. If they don’t have internet access, you just print and mail.

I thought about the onsite reporting routine, but then realized if I needed to look something up at home, or get info on recalls of their equipment I couldn't do that as the report was already written and given to the client.

I went another route. I looked at samples for several and decided to write my own that suited my needs and likes.

I use Word and and even put it on my PDA. I can change it any time I need.

I use Home Gauge with a Dell Laptop computer. I love it. It was a little pricey, but well work the money. I especially like the photo feature which has helped me out a few times. It does everything.

You can download a fee test copy from www.HomeGauge.com
