Ohio State Requirement for Uplaoding CEU Certificates

So while I am ground down to last minute CEU’s completions and Internachi certs I call Ohio Board to understand the sequence from which my CEU’s are reported. My understanding through my 2021 class was that by joining internachi.org I would get access to the yearly CEU classes I needed, ok, did and done however, I was also advised that internachi took care of providing the yearly CEU certs to the Ohio Board. Upon verifying via internachi and the Director Ohio State Board of Realtors I find that neither seem to be the case and that I need upload my certs to the Ohio com.ohio.gov site. Well, good luck with that. Does anyone know the actual sequence from which to provide the yearly proof CEU certs to the Ohio Board ? this is seriously a problem since the license is a 3 year license and 14 hr CEU’s need be provided. Is there a real process in place for this ?

InterNACHI states that they do send the results to the state, I can’t say that they do or don’t, but, I just renewed my license last year and was required to send copies of all my CE certs and insurance cert along with my renewal application to the state.

Although there may be a proccess for it that I don’t know about, I’ve never uploaded (with the exception of email) any CEs to the state site via online.

I did the same as Kevin. I printed off the Certifications after completing the courses, filled out the Ohio Renewal form, and made a copy of my insurance with the Ohio Board of Home Inspectors listed as the Certificate Holder; and sent the whole thing off to the Board in a Manila envelope. (Made a copy of everything for myself, just in case it got lost, or there was some other problem.)

You probably already have a copy of the renewal reminder, but I’m attaching the one they sent to me last April, just in case.

Hello Kevin, Thanks for the reply. Im simply unclear since I’m not in renewal until 12/24. This is my first complete year in licensed to Ohio CPI/CHI as an inspector. Appears part of confusion came from training via membership. Nonetheless, I simply had to put in my 14 hrs year State requirement. I am now assuming that the CEU certs need be logged and once actual renewal date 12/24 comes, I will need show internachi CEU certs total 42 hrs CEU credits to accompany my 3rd year renewal. Seems Ohio has changed some rules while they have not updated the com.ohio.gov site to accommodate uploading to their site. According to the Director, they are still working on that form. There does not seem to be accurate direction from the State Board on how or when to update each years required CEU’s. Ahhh, Patrick Hume nailed it. Seems its a reminder I did not receive and yes, they have my proper email. Thanks guys, very helpful ! I will be checking with the State for dropping the ball on emailing notice. Thanks again.

Thank you very Much Patrick Hume, You nailed it. Seems its a reminder I did not receive and yes, they have my proper email. Thanks guys, very helpful ! I will be checking with the State for dropping the ball on emailing notice. Thanks again.

Ohio is different and somewhat difficult. I printed all my InterNachi transcripts and mailed them in. If you take a class outside of their network of classes, you have to get it pre approved. That’s another tedious process. I took a Commercial Inspection class and a Thermal Imaging class at the Bloomsburg House of Horrors (NETI) and found out they were not approved for Ohio credit. The thermal imaging class I took was the same class Ohio offered for credit the week prior in Cleveland, with the same instructor. They approved the Ohio one but not the one I attended in Bloomsburg, PA. I joined OREIA to pay for their online classes, only to find out not all classes are approved for Ohio credit. They did refund me for those classes. I’m not clear why they offer classes that don’t count for CE credit, especially when you pay for the class. I also attended their annual conference online for credit. That alone got me my 14 hours. They are a good group but new and don’t make it easy. My InterNachi credits did not automatically register with Ohio either.

Hi,

I apologize for not seeing this sooner.

InterNACHI education staff DO submit your Ohio credits to the state. We take your information from the dashboard and course completion and submit it to a specific email directly to the state.

In addition to InterNACHI (or any education provider you take courses with) submitting your information directly to the state, members should go to their dashboard and download certificate of completion and email them to the state. The best email to my understanding to send certificates to is ohib@com.state.oh.us.

Most states don’t have both the provider and student submit certificates but Ohio does. We are not sure why and hope they refine this process for your convenience down the road. If both parties do not submit credits, I don’t believe it will be applied so it’s important to submit your own certificates. If you have submitted your own certificates and are still having trouble with continuing education being applied to your license, please email education@internachi.org so we can confirm everything went through on our end.

Hello Kaela,

I recently nailed down State of Ohio procedure for yearly license updating. Seems many of our members as ewll as the actual Board of Ohio are confused about the yearly process so here is the low down Ohio ORC clear.

Every Third Year Renewal:

  1. During each year of a licensed H.I. (years 1-3 ) The licensee is required to log into their own personal records those accurate copies of their CEU certificates for inclusion upon their 3rd year ending renewal date for a total demonstrated CEU credit of 14 CEU’s per license year, a 3 year total of 42 hours. All CEU Certificates are to be submitted with the State of Ohio License renewal form and copies of Required Insurnce withe State of Ohio as policy Rider.
    .

Yearly License Update:

Each C.H.I. Licensee is required to submit a copy of their insurance ( in-force G / E&O ) to the Ohio Board of Realtors Licensing agency once per year.

State of Ohio does state they do not always accurately receive CEU class hour certificates from Internachi most due to State of Ohio Web updates and that it is the responsibility of the C.H.I to maintain their yearly CEU Certs for submittal on License renewal evry 3rd year.

Finally, more clear than muddy water in the summer sun.
