Optical fiber cable

Can an optical fiber cable share a conduit with 120V wiring? Thanks!

When associated withe each other…blah…blah…blah.

I guess you can, thanks Larry!

I’m not going to pretend to know all the nuisances of the code but it appears it may be ok if the fiber optic cable is ran with the current carrying conductors when they are associated. Are they associated in your case?

I don’t think drilling a hole in the LB fitting was a smart move.

You need a university degree to fully understand what Larry posted and I don’t have one. The optical fiber cable is for the TV/internet and the conduit is for a 120V split AC so…

Neither do I but they applied some caulk

It violates the listing/labeling of the device. NEC 110.3(B)

Even though it is wrong, that has to be one of the cleanest fiber/cable/phone installs I have ever seen.

Lots of conflicting responses out there on the topic.

From what I see in code nothing prohibits punching a hole in a condulet. After looking in the UL Whitebook under Metallic outlet boxes QCIT and Nonmetallic outlet boxesQCMZ and also covers for condulets QCKW nothing is mentioned about not being able to punch a hole into it. Even the Electrical equipment installed in ordinary locations AALZ doesn’t say not to. My only guess that it couldn’t be done is if the instructions with the condulet said not to and then we wouldn’t be able to in accordance with 110.3B Installation and Use

I enjoyed the quote you have above. It demonstrates the sheer stupidity of people where they have to be told every single aspect of how to do something and can not even use the brain they were given. I can use many, many examples but this sounds like the type person who would shatter a piece of wood by driving 50 nails to toenail it to another member. Of course their excuse is “Oh but the Codes do not say I can’t do it. The codes only say I was suppose to use “a minimum of 3 each 6d nails”. If they only told me not to use 50 nails I would not have.”.

If the manufacturer had wanted that cover (in this example) to be penetrated they would have put a knockout on it and provided a fitting that has a similar gasket or other sealing means as around the cover itself.

As did I. I had the exact same thought(s) as I read it. SMFH!

So they both serve the same home so they are associated right?
