Oval Water heater flue material

Does anyone know what these old oval flues were made of? I’m not sure if the white is a pipe wrap that was applied or is the actual material of the pipe. thanks for any clarity you can provide.

Possibly transite asbestos?

It is called Transite. Basiclly a cementious asbestos pipe. They are fine as long as they are not bothered or falling apart, but your client should know about it. What is in the picture is not in good shape.

That looks like a real bad set up, call it out for further evaluation by a licensed qualified plumber and don’t forget the pex and shark bites need jumpers for uninterrupted path to ground.

Likely Asbestos cement Transite flue pipe. It has been covered with aluminum tape wrap as well. Likely it was done to hide the damaged material. I would red flag it.

I have been retired a fair amount of time now , but I dont remember red flagging anything, as a matter of fact I just don;t know where you get red flags and what they are good for…
