I am sure you could do it with no problem at all. Hopefully you will get rich at it.
I actually hope all I talk or chat with get totally rich and can live their lives as they see fit. I help other inspectors with all kinds of issues weekly. At least a couple a week come calling but none speak out here for fear of ridicule.
Me I don’t give a ---- but you all know that already.
Have you seen actual numbers? As a rule of thumb, NO shingle manufacturer stands behind their product. They may throw a bone to the roofing contractor once in a while, but they will never accept responsibility for faulty products.
After 25 years in the roofing industry, I’ve only had about 5 claims of manufacturer defect. All either Elk or Certainteed. Owens Corning, historically, has made a sub-standard shingle IMO, so we’ve rarely used them.
My point is, I just don’t see how there could be that many claims. Also, who is liable if the roof leaks where the inspector pulled the shingle?
If I can find the value of this, I’m on board, but I don’t want to waste time chasing a rabbit.
And, like John said, I couldn’t attend so I’m a little behind the power curve.
This is a smart program and I want to participate. Not because I expect to make a fortune doing these. But we cover a large area and it’s filler.
More importantly, it’s something I’m comfortable with. Seriously, it’s not for everyone. If you are not comfortable removing and replacing couple of shingles, walking roofs, what have you, don’t bother.
For me and my company, it’s a no brainer. But it’s not for every inspector.
Jay my issue is that how are they going to take into consideration the area you cover? It “seems” to me based on what they said it will be based on your closeness to the location. Closeness of what? Your office? Your mailbox? 1 of your 20 inspectors??? I am not quite sure how they are going to determine that stuff and it makes me think it will be more of the same ole playing favorites we see in so many other types of things???
I am not saying any of that will happen but I just wonder. I will be very interested to see how it plays out.
I believe they said the entire state Bradley. But I’m not 100% certain. Anyways, will be interesting to see how it works. I don’t believe there are downsides to it Per se but, I do believe it won’t be for everyone.
With regards to scheduling, you can’t schedule an unknown. These text messages could come at anytime during the day. I believe you have to immediately hit the phone button, sort of like jeopardy if not someone else takes it. I personally believe as Reese, there isn’t the potential for a lot if volume in anyone’s particular neck if the woods. But time will tell.
That entire state thing is very vague, It’s a pilot program that it being tried out. As with any program the more questions we ask the more questions that seem to pop up. It’s the home inspector way!
My Take on this…
If there is a leak we won’t be called out, a roofing contractor will. If you are a roofing contractor I suggest you get with Nick, as I see way more leak complaints than granule loss complaints.
As I understand it InterNachi will be doling out the jobs.
Only shingle inspections
7 / 12 roofs and under
No ladder or drone inspections, you must traverse
online training
There will be quality control (monitoring)
And here’s a little secret…You don’t have to go to Jacksonville to sign up. It’s online.
Most of the questions will probably be answered here by then.
I went because I was hoping for a headstart against the competition (5000 hungry home inspectors will do that to you) Don’t get me wrong, it was great seeing Ben and Nathan again, and watching Mike being all demure and proper but I could have foregone the 8 hrs drive and the 100.00 in gas. At least Nathan gave me 100.00 towards my bill.
My thoughts are that they will quickly be trying develope a list of serious and capable inspectors. Maybe a little back room screening will be going on.
For those that are interested, I’d recommend taking the course as soon as offered and follow up with some emails to those that make the calls.
Question for those of you that went to the seminar for OC. I just did the online videos and tests but never noticed where do the new shingles that we are supposed to replace come from? Do they send it out or do they expect us to supply them
I went to the Denver event a couple of weeks ago. I have to completely agree with you about this opportunity. I think by the time you do all of the tasks involved you have more time invested than what they have estimated.
The other issue is what happens if the claim is denied and the area where you removed the shingles leaks? Plus, would you technically be performing a roof repair?
