PEX water supply piping in slab foundations

If the red pex is layed in a grid patter it likely is for heat. so the post should be accurate… according to my research there should be 2" of rigid foam insulation…

As best I can tell it should be thusly:

Yes it can be encased in a slab. It must be protected with a nonmetallic sleeve at the penetration point.

  1. On top of the compacted earth or sand, install a vapor barrier.
  2. Lay down at least 2″ of rigid foam insulation.
  3. Install the wire mesh or rebar for the concrete slab.
  4. Attach the tubing to the wire mesh or rebar using plastic zip ties.

Do not allow joints within the slab, use a continuous length

That’s the best I can do

I don’t think the red material is PEX pipe. The white material looks to be PEX pipe.

I wonder what it is…I see the other pipe you are talking about

Looks to me that it’s post tension cables. Radiant heat is never ran in a grid pattern it’s always ran in a loop.

This forum is a great place to learn :slightly_smiling_face:

Here is something to look at, last weak, I installed this Quik Trak and Pex for in floor heat and installed engineered White oak over the top of it.

That’s pretty slick stuff Scott. I’ve never installed in that type of material. I’ve done a lot of lightweight concrete installation.
