No, they’ll probably just start a bogus branding campaign whereby they create a 75 cent video, mail it to their own members, and invoice their members for promoting the association, rather than the association promoting their members icon_lol.gif .

Monkey see, monkey do.

You have to. Exams and quizzes have a purpose far greater than qualifying inspectors… the real purpose is to alert the inspector to his/her own weak areas, help define what he/she should strengthen through education, confirm he/she has it right, and alert him/her to any new changes in the industry.

Any association that doesn't require/offer plenty of exams and quizzes on an ongoing basis as a condition of membership... is a diploma mill.

Good Home Inspectors Are Key To Buying A House
Research Inspector's Background Before Hiring

POSTED: 4:58 pm EDT August 23, 2005
UPDATED: 8:50 pm EDT August 23, 2005

A home inspection is one of the most important steps to buying a home, but experts say that many people don't take the time to research and shop around for a good inspector -- and that can be costly.

Cliff Kellett, of Ridley Park, was surprised when he found about 20 items missing from his home inspection report.

"It's a good thing I was there. ... (I) stayed on top of the report," Kellett said.

Kathleen Kuhn, CEO of Housemaster Home Inspections, said that homeowners must do research before hiring a home inspector.

According to Kuhn, house hunters need to find out what kind of formal training an inspector has received and what access to ongoing training the inspector has.

Kuhn said that buyers should look for an inspector who participates in annual testing because requirements often change and the buyer needs an inspector that is current.

Consumer watch groups, like Angie?s List, can help a house buyer find a qualified inspector.

Angie?s List collects consumer ratings on local service companies. Consumers tell Angie?s List what companies they have hired and they then evaluate those companies. Other consumers can then check the list before they hire contractors.

Experts also recommend that buyers check into whether or not an inspector has what they call errors and omissions insurance.

"If you don't have errors and omissions insurance, I think it's a red flag that either the person's new to the industry, they have a bad track record, or you just ask yourself why would a professional not want this kind of insurance," said Kuhn. "It protects both them and the consumer."

NBC 10 also discovered that being a member of the Trade Association is good, but it does not guarantee that an inspector is qualified.

"It's a voluntary membership. They don't require initial training," Kuhn said. "They don't really require ongoing training, necessarily, (and) they don't require annual testing."

NBC 10 also found that it is critical for the home buyer to be present for the inspection so that the buyer can make sure the inspector looks over every section of the house.

NBC 10?s Tracy Davidson reported that it is important to realize your home inspection is not a pass-fail test, but it is a detailed report on the condition of the house.

About 3 miles from where I grew up!
Is that a bad area or something besides, Chester?

We have Certified Public Accounting firm creating a report which calculates and quantifies the financial damages caused by several well-known NACHI bashers. They are up over 6 million $ at this point and climbing. This report will be used in the wave of multi-million dollar defamation civil suits coming next.

I think our attorneys are starting to enjoy this. ![icon_biggrin.gif](upload://iKNGSw3qcRIEmXySa8gItY6Gczg.gif)

With Mr. Hagarty’s permission, I’d like to pass on to the rest that the featured news item that came from Philadelphia on Monday was actually filmed at Joe’s house.

With some of the bad press that has been aimed at our industry coming from the Pennsylvania air waves, I think it is not only refreshing but appropriate that such a positive report would come from the very home of one of our members.

Congratulations, Joe. Thanks for making it happen.
