Greg:

As you know, there is an association in our industry that does something horrible to consumers... actually 2 things horrible:

1. It has no initial requirements for membership application whatsoever. It takes on potentially blind people who have never passed any exam, never taken a Code of Ethics course, never taken a Standards of Practice quiz and potentially NEVER been on an inspection.

then if that isn't bad enough... this association does something really horrible to consumers (and wrecks our markets at the same time):

2. It takes these unqualified, potentially blind, potentially never-been-on-an-inspection candidates and encourages them to go out and do fee-paid inspections for actual consumer clients. This association actually tells the candidate to do this or else they can't achieve full membership. Disgusting!

One of the "outstanding" additions to NACHI's http://www.nachi.org/membership.htm is the requirement for any inspector who has yet to do his/her first inspection... to NOT perform his/her first inspection for an actual consumer client. At NACHI, totally inexperienced newbies must first do mock inspection on homes where no consumer could be damaged. Outstanding!

Sorry Nick I am not at your level to debate with you.

How about if I get you a guest spot on the Bill O'Reilly show? ![icon_wink.gif](upload://ssT9V5t45yjlgXqiFRXL04eXtqw.gif)

I’ll confess a dirty little secret about NACHI’s Online Inspector Examination, NACHI’s Code of Ethics Obstacle Course, and NACHI’s Standards of Practice Quiz:

The main purpose of them is not to test competence... although they do that too. The main purpose is education, in that...

--NACHI's Inspector Examination produces a custom color weakness pie chart which alerts inspectors to their own weaknesses.

--NACHI's Code of Ethics Obstacle Course keeps sending the inspector back if he/she appears to not understand so as to alert him/her to what is ethical in each situation.

--NACHI's Standard of Practice Quiz alerts the inspector to areas where he/she is under inspecting AND (sometimes more importantly) where he/she is over inspecting.

Point is, NACHI is so big on education that even our competence testing tool's main purposes are to help members learn (about themselves).

in my above post combined with the fact that other so called “competing associations”…

--have no or nearly no membership requirements,
--are anti-education in that they charge directly and indirectly for education,
--only get around to testing competence after their candidates reaches higher membership status,
--and encourage unqualified, inexperienced candidates to reach full status by working for poor consumers,

is the reason the E&O insurance industry (which has the most to lose) chose NACHI and NACHI members exclusively; http://www.nachi.org/eo.htm

And they made the correct choice.

the negativity on these boards is getting so old…and it’s always the same people. Use the boards and assoc. for the good. Education and the sharing of ideas and experiences.

Looks like NACHI might just be headed in the right direction. I hope the SC sees the merit in what Nick did or wants to do. You folks will still need a proctored exam (real proctoring) in order to gain acceptance in the industry. It is still not a profession due to ease of entry.

I’ll try to ignore the broken-record negativity and say again that I like the idea. A good idea is good idea, period. I hope you have a big committee with a lot of time, it could become quite a burden at times.

Funny Jeff, I don't remember you ever being unbanned. If you dont' like this organization so much why do you really want to come back.
