not too sure, but i would think that if it is asbestos that it would be fine as long as you leave it alone. like asbestos siding. i’d note it and voice the concerns, and move on. it doesn’t look too fiberouse as to become airborn so should be o.k. icon_cool.gif

How about a storm collar? and a cap? I’d most likely write it up as amateurish since I don’t believe a professional would install such a setup.

Hi Brian; Any chance code check is referring to modern day installations of metal single wall exhaust vent systems? I do a lot of inspections on homes built in the 20’s, 30’s and 40’s and there’s a lot transit tile exhaust vent material running through sub and attic areas. icon_idea.gif

Will, you are correct. Code check is referring to the current code. I have wondered about single wall transite vent pipes myself. I do not know how hot the exterior gets. Either way single wall pipe clearance is 6".
