Aloha All,

With so many meters and varous price ranges I need recommendation on the brand or type. Could you recomend an inexpensive and reliable moisture meter?

A NaCHI mini course of the day discussed checking AC temperature of coils. What type of thermometer is used?

Christine,

I agree with David--the Delmhorst BD-2100 is a fine unit. Although I haven't had mine too long, it works well and appears to be able to take the "oopses" quite nicely. The manufacturer has been around for close to 60 years, and I bought my first Delmhorst (as a government engineer) almost 25 years ago. As for your question on checking A/C coil temperature, there are many infrared thermometers out there; I've used my Raytek to check just about everything, and it seems to work well. Haven't checked any A/C coils lately--the snow is just over 6-1/2' deep in the backyard right now.

Welcome to the forum.

Tramex Moisture Encounter Plus works for me. I got it from Tool Experts but bought it through AHIT for a discount. It is a non-destructive type that has no probes. Worth the extra money because it detects moisture behind bathroom tile and such just by laying it on the surface.

I’ve been using the Delmhorst BD-2100 pin-type digital meter. I like it very much.

I'm looking for a different moisture detection toy. I just ordered the Tramex Encounter Plus. I'm going to see how good this tool really is.

I don’t have the “plus”, but I’m sure you won’t be disappointed at how easily you can move the meter along walls and other areas. Keep us updated!
