Plumbing in Pa. Fernco acceptable?

Chances are that S trap is connected to galvanized drain pipe and is clogged shut all along the line.

A plumber would never use a hacksaw on that pipe. A tubing cutter is what you would use and it would work just fine.

Snake the pipe until it’s clean. Re-pipe it with better materials and use a AAV.

I’m confused… how does the Fernco know what state it’s in?

A plumber wasn’t asking the question, a DIY homeowner-type was.

And if he doesn’t already know how, he likely doesn’t have a tubing cutter.

I think my “tubing cutter” would crush it too ;). I’ve nicknamed it “The Castrator”

Why would you assume “you” will be using a hacksaw?

It depends on the gauge of the tube. Well built American tube is extremely thick and durable and will last for decades. I’ve installed a lot of this material working for a national laboratory that insisted on American brands.

The Chinese garbage you buy in the Home Depot‘s and Lowe’s are one grade above tinfoil.

If this pipe is old, it’s likely very thick and durable.

The only thing I “assumed” was that a non-professional (ie, non tradesperson) would grab the only simple tool he has available, and in my experience that’s either a recip saw or a hacksaw.

Thank you for your reply. Would the floor underneath the sink have to be dug up in order to replace everything?

sure looks that way to me, from wv, using just that one picture.
