I think Blaine is right. I don’t know of any vertical minimums or maximums. The horizontal dimensions are crucial to the functionality and maintenance of the trap.
Vertical dimensions are less likely to affect the trap.

I did an inspection for an architect recently and there was an “S” type trap under the Kitchen sink of a 125 year old home. I said this was a no-no, and explained the reasoning. He said “how else are you going to do it since all the waste lines are in the basement?” I told him it could probably be “P” trapped just under the floor, then a horizontal line connecting to the waste lines could be put in. He asked the same thing about the max vertical distance. I couldn’t remember seeing anything written about a maximum distance, so when I went home I looked it up and still couldn’t find anything.
