Hi to all,

You have the pleasure of my company for the next week, and starting today we are going to do a week of HVAC questions. I suspect that this is going to be tough as heating systems are very regional, I for one will never see a heat pump in my area, and many of you in the warmer climes will not be familiar with oil fired boilers and steam systems that are things we in New England deal with every day.

This first one should be some what easy, what the heck it is a holiday weekend, Happy Easter to all ![icon_lol.gif](upload://zEgbBCXRskkCTwEux7Bi20ZySza.gif) ![icon_lol.gif](upload://zEgbBCXRskkCTwEux7Bi20ZySza.gif)

BTW, If any one has good HVAC inspection pic's please either send them to me or better still post them in the inspection Photo library, as good material on this topic is a little thin on the ground

Regards

Gerry

I am a little surpised to see that only 80% got this correct, the most common wrong answer was B: a solid fuel boiler. The terms boiler and furnace are specific, a boiler heats water and a furnace heats air ![icon_wink.gif](upload://ssT9V5t45yjlgXqiFRXL04eXtqw.gif)

Hi Bob,

Like I've said before I can get sneaky ![icon_lol.gif](upload://zEgbBCXRskkCTwEux7Bi20ZySza.gif) ![icon_lol.gif](upload://zEgbBCXRskkCTwEux7Bi20ZySza.gif) and the solid fuel boiler answer was put in there ahead of the correct answer just so that people would jump on the first available 1/2 sensible answer, without reading all the way through.

Regards

Gerry

DOH is even more revered, it is Simpson's English.

Is that an old picture or was it still in use? Where do people go to buy coal if they have to live in those areas (wherever that is)? Do you buy it at hardware stores, Wal-Mart, or do they have coal stores? Inquiring minds from down south want to know. If they still use that do they have indoor plumbing, etc??

The key elements were the ducts. Furnaces use ducts…

That looks alot like the furnace in one of the old party houses near the college that I didn’t attend in my youth.

It started out as a coal furnace, was converted to natural gas by some sort of professional, then converted to wood by some poor college students. Some of us wondered if there was enough wood left in the collapsing garage to make it through the winter or if they'd start using the back porch for fuel. ![icon_rolleyes.gif](upload://iqxt7ABYC2TEBomNkCmZARIrQr6.gif)

Where's all the asbestos?

At least now I know what it is!

Living in South Florida all of my life, I have never seen such a contraption.

The only thing coal is used for down here, is barbecues…charcoal!!
