Radon testing using Radstar

I am in Alabama and looking to get into radon testing and was looking at Radstar machines. Has anyone used them and what was your experience? Or is there another company you would recommend? I have used Radalink in Florida but they are a bit more $$$ and that was when I worked for a company.
Thanks

STOP!
(Nothing personal, but…)
Why is it that newbie (and some ‘yearling’ inspectors) insist on going with the cheapest crap they can get?
Once they begin with this lower quality stuff, they rarely change or upgrade to quality products/services!
Your Company reputation depends on quality. Only offer the best so you can charge the most.
Like Home Inspectors, Radon testing is not a “all-the-same” situation!
You have experience with Radalink, and it is a quality product/service. Why would you downgrade from that for only a few bucks per test? You are going to charge your clients for the difference anyway. Don’t forget the quality also translates to accuracy and reliability of the EQ.
Lot’s to consider beyond the $$$ aspect!

I agree with JJ. If you’re not NRSB certified, and if you don’t maintain and follow a Quality Assurance Plan, you should stick with Radalink.

Listen I am not new to home inspecting or radon testing. I was working for a company so I was not paying for the machines. I am now starting my own business and I was looking to see if people have used these machines and what there experience was. I do want to offer good quality and that is why I am on here asking. Just because it cost more for Radalink does not mean it is better or maybe it does. I also have to compete with other inspectors and I see what they are charging. With being new I do not have much business yet and trying to keep the cost down if possible. Not looking for attitude just feedback!!!

But only feedback you agree with???

Is your detector NRPP or NRSB approved? Those are the only devices you should use! And again, you should have a Quality Assurance Plan in place that you follow. Otherwise, you are working on your own, outside accepted standards of practice, and providing a disservice to the public.

I see Radon Away - RadStar units are on the NRPP list. Make sure yours is the right model.

Radon eye pro is the models that I use. There is no fee after purchase (except yearly calibration testing). They are simple to use and accurate. Reports are easily completed and send out.

Hi Corey,
There are a lot of quality options in this space. I used E-Perms for many years and moved to AirThings CRM for various reasons. RadonEye is a promoted solution from InterNACHi that had good options as does Airthings. Airthings also has a monthly program (rental). If you want to discuss directly let me know. My direct number is 303-908-4207, leave me a message if I do not answer directly and I will get back to you.

There’s an idea by many on this board that ANY mention of competing on price is a threat to the industry and immediately makes you an unqualified hack. Almost as if the laws of supply and demand don’t apply to our industry. Ignore it… and just take the useful feedback you get.

I used Radalink for a while but also found it VERY expensive. I ended up buying my own Sun Nuclear machines and they were cash cows. Even with having to ship them for calibration annually they made me a lot of money. I’d lean towards buying equipment if you can. You’ll realize far more profit if you can.

This reminds me of Quickbooks… I used to buy a new version of software every +/- three years for around $125. Now it’s $40/mo for the online version and they don’t make the desktop version any longer. My accountant was giving me some shit recently for not just spending the $40/mo as it made his life (slightly) easier. I guess I’m just a hack

Was he going to adjust his pricing (discount) if you switched over??

Doubtful… he prices like the masses here. Take it or leave it… but he’s worth it and I pay without asking and am happy to. After 20 years he’s almost a friend and was just poking at me a bit.

I don’t mean to knock on those here that demand what we are worth… just wanted to point out it’s often an uphill battle in this industry as people just don’t realize how expensive a cheap inspection is.

I didn’t expect him to. I was just funnin’ wit ya!
