Question about this kickout flashing, why is it bent inward instead of going straight out? Is this ok or a defect?
I of course noticed the cracked stucco which needs immediate repair, but first wondering about how the flashing should be set.
Thanks in advance.
The name “kickout” says it all. It is designed to ‘kickout’ any rainwater away from the wall to prevent possible damage from water intrusion.
I usually see straight dormer flashing here, not kick-out. However, I do not see a negative consequence of the kick out. Therefore I do not consider it a defect but rather just atypical.
On a side note, it needs to be repaired/corrected at the sidewall and I suspect concealed damage. Poor install.
I don’t see a need for a kick-out flashing unless the wall extends beyound the roof edge. Since it is there, proper repairs should be executed at the cracked stucco.
Yeap, the kickout isn’t necessary.
That one is not a true kickout. It is just a diverter to prevent water from going over the rake edge of the roof.
It’s possible the roof was sloped slightly directing water towards that side and overflowing at that point, and this “kickout flashing” “diverter” was the fix.
You think they could have at least painted the whole thing to match though.
